Pistols at Dawn

My sister is well-pleased with Mr. Cheney's cursing, while I think it was unprofessional. She says in some situations only certain words are capable of expressing your sentiments and that saying some skanky insult that is minus the vulgarity is just as bad as saying the vulgarity. Be gracious or go ahead and employ good Anglo-Saxonisms.
I still think it's unprofessional. I'd rather Cheney caned the guy or called him out. A duel would have been fine too. Telling someone to eff off is just too coarse and common.

Where I come from the correct response is to snip a chap's tie off and call him a poltroon.

I love calling people 'poltroons' at any time. I'll even thrown in a 'blackguard' from time to time.

While I can't entirely blame Cheney for saying what he did, I agree that it was unprofessional. The use of the "F" word is coarse and vulgar and I believe should be below, at least in public, the VP. Pistols at dawn? Hmmmm...I likes it! ::making note of "poltroon" and blackguard::

So "F'ing Poltroon" would be bad, then?

I'm still on the side of your sister here, though. There are occasional for which only a short sharp curse word is appropriate. That or a backhanded slap to the face.

Caning Leahy works for me.

I'm all for a formal physical response when someone insults you. I think a cheap curse was beneath him, and inappropriate for someone holding public office.
My sister ate it up with a spoon, though. So it's all a matter of opinion (and differences of taste).
