Did Duane tide everybody over until I could get in here for a little vacation blogging?
I'm still here in DC. My feet are worn down to nubs and family ties are getting a little frayed. This town is awesome, though and I'd love to spend a year or two here so I could see everything.
My hotel is full of Australians doing a "political exchange." I think they might be some of the advance party for an invasion. I challenged one woman, but as might be expected, she denied it. She even told me she couldn't stand vegemite. Rather than set me at ease, that little tidbit of info just made me more suspicious. Beware the 'Roo.
I guess DC in July seems like a nice cool refresher for a Florida native. I grew up there and hated July and August. Humidity and gnats, blech!
You're right though, it's an awesome town. I can't wait 'till the kids are old enough for a sightseeing trip back "home."
Posted by: keggin at July 21, 2004 10:21 PMRupert was the advance party. Any Australians hanging around Washington would be pinko journalists like Tim Dunlop. I think the plan is, the Bush administration listens to some of these mealy-mouthed gerbils and passes a bill to sling us a shitload of aid to fight an obvious commie insurgency, and we get a "School of the Antipodes" set up so we learn neat ways to gut lefties like fish. I'm not volunteering for Margo Kingston- I for one don't want to know what horrors lurk in her gizzard.
Posted by: Paul at July 22, 2004 06:12 AMIt's not Australia, it's Canada that you need to worry about. 90% of the population lives within 100 miles of the border. It's because they're massing for the attack.
Welcome to the big city, Cracker! I've been away from the Internet for a week but hope you have found some of our local treasures. I spent about half my life in Florida and the other half up here so the counterpoint is meaningful to me. There's more jobs and more cars in DC.
If you can get to Marrakesh, a Moroccan restaurant near Florida Ave you will not regret it. Happy and safe travels!
