Florida Boy Shows What He's Made Of

zacharyhowlett.jpg
Drenched in sweat, Zachary Howlett, of Lakeland, Florida, hands out pet food at a food and donations site in Wauchula, Florida, along U.S. Route 17, Monday, Aug. 16, 2004. After watching the devastation wreaked along Route 17 by Hurricane Charley on television, Howlett went door-to-door in his hometown to raise $220 overnight. He then bought food and supplies, and asked his father to drive him to Wauchula so he could pass it out himself.

These are my favorite kinds of stories. Thanks!

In my kind of story, the little scamp would be selling the cans of pet food for $50 a pop, and then outrunning Johnny Law when they try to throw him in the klink for pet food price gouging.

"What's more important? $50? Or letting little 'Snowball' DIE? It's your choice, Ms."

I'm pretty sure that that makes me a dirtbag.

Mine too, Tammi.

You kid, Bill, but the scammers with hammers are arriving. There'll be plenty of people getting ripped off.

In my kind of story, those cans turn out to be filled with human remains. Bwahahahahaha!

You both need a good caning.

I drove through Arcadia today. There were lots of people by the side of the road with signs that they had "free food." It makes you feel good to see people at their best...Great photos of the storm at www.schnittshow.com if anyone is interested.

We've been seeing that in Cape Coral too. We had someone drive through handing out free ice yesterday (and we were all very grateful since we are still without power in my area).

My 4plex has a borrowed generator and we've been freezing bottles of water in the one fridge we can run from it and handing them around, as well as letting the neighbors keep food in there. (The poor fridge is jam-packed).

Hey Bill- a fitting end to your story would be if the little bastard passed out in a sugar-coma from gorging on swishies and tootsie-rolls paid for with his ill-gotten gains, and was eaten by starving dogs.
Good on the munchkin.

Good you're all working together, Kathy.
