Change Of Seasons

Lots of people are keeping their shutters up for the time being

Meanwhile, some folks are acting pissy and need to get on I-95 and head back north where they came from:

"If this was New York, they'd have it fixed in no time," groused Brooklyn native Ben Volaski, 80, of the Broward County Sunrise Lakes condominium community, whose building was still in darkness three days after the storm made landfall. FPL's refusal to send workers to repair downed power lines in winds of 35 mph over recent days, seemed cowardly to Volaski.

"They're chicken, chicken, chicken," he said.

Apparently Ben Volaski has never heard of OSHA. Sorry Ben, but I wouldn't risk my life or my job just to give electricity either. As a matter of fact, with the attitude you have, I would move on down the line and MAYBE catch you on the way back!!

Mr. Volaski's originally from New York where everything was always done better and would be done better in New York . . .

It's okay for me to make fun of that kind of attitude because I'm originally from New York myself. So's Hubby. When we headed down here mumble-something years ago after we got married, his family thought we were nuts. Except now, they followed us. (We're on one side of Florida, they're on the other in one of those upscale New-Yawk-Refugee communities.)

And it never fails. Everytime we get together: New Yawk food was better and government services were better yadda yadda yadda.

Mr. Volaski is 80 years old. My opinion? His age alone gives him the right to gripe and I'm sure, like my in-laws, he probably does anyway. But saying that FPL's efforts in restoring electrical service after Frances don't stack up to what would have been done in New York?

I hope on his behalf they don't.

It took three weeks for my parents to have power again when Hurricane Gloria hit New York.

I think it was Lewis Grizzard who said it first -- Tell these people that Delta is ready when they are.
