Votitude

Somehow, I don't think so many of you read the article on former Supervisor of Elections Miriam Oliphant that I so thoughtfully stole. That's too bad, because it's very entertaining, and just like Willie Nelson says, she's always on our minds. She captured our imagination with her criminal handling of her office, her inability to admit she's ever been wrong about anything, and her scarves.

We were talking today about a group we allowed to do a registration drive outside our building last month. All people can do is trust to these people's good nature. If the forms were handed in today, rather than yesterday, then some people will be very surprised when they go to the polls on election day.

It really shouldn't concern me, though, since because I'm not a minority, I can't be disenfranchised and since because I'm a Democrat, I don't have to worry about my registration being held back until after the deadline. Those trays of unopened ballots they found at Miriam's joint, though...one of those could have been mine. I guess my vote can get tossed after all.

And I need that vote. It cancels out Mr. Cracker's.

There were stragglers come in today to register. Some were sad at having missed the cut-off date, some were angry. Don't you think it's unfair that because they missed it by one day, they won't be allowed to vote in the election? Maybe Dade County will let them vote there.
