October Surprise

So it's come.

Al-Qaeda and Bin-Laden want to inject themselves in the American election.

They're murderers and we'll never stop hunting them down until we bring the last one to justice. No negotiation, no appeasement.

Last week I had a lady say to me "Shame on you" when I answered her insult to President Bush by saying I was voting for him.
The people who should feel ashamed are those who try to undercut the Commander-in-Chief in the middle of a freaking war.

John Kerry is a Jimmy Carter retread, an effete Bill Clinton with erectile dysfunction. He's not going to do jack about terrorists. He's going to talk, talk, talk.

Screw that noise. I don't want talk. I want action.

Protein Wisdom has a round-up of reactions.

When I hear Osama bin Laden, I also hear the President on March 13, 2002 say:

You know, I just don’t spend that much time on him, Kelly, to be honest with you. I’m more worried about making sure that our soldiers are well-supplied . . . And, again, I don’t know where he is. I, uh. I, uh. I’ll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him.

Well, the President may not be worried. But I am. My family lives in a potential target city.

And then there’s the comment about supplies. Why was it those Guard troops refused their orders?

So you take a quote out of context like no one is going to click and read the whole thing?

Donnah,

Please give me some credit for providing the context. Most commentators just provide the out-of-context quote.

But, even in context, I think the President was wrong. While “terror is bigger than one person,” one person can be very important to promoting terror.

Osama bin Laden has provided funding, vision, strategy and management skills to al Qaeda. His continuing to elude the U.S. makes al Qaeda look to radical and disenchanted Muslims like one of few operations which can stand up to us.

In context, the President tries to minimize OBL’s importance. But, with 65% of Pakistanis and 55% of Jordanians approving of OBL, the President is clearly wrong in doing so. While OBL may be unimportant to the President, he is clearly important to many Muslims. He is a magnet who grows terrorist ranks the longer he is out there.

I think that if the President paid more attention to OBL, he really would have brought the fight to the terrorists and have done so far more effectively.

OK, Gary. I didn't know if you weren't just a drive-by. My apologies.
I don't think we really know how much effort was expended behind-the-scenes to get Osama. Probably alot. When I was in the army, I used to think of my folks going about their lives, unaware of all these people who were on guard, trying to protect them.

Maybe Bush was just trying to deflect criticism, like if you haven't got Osama, you haven't done shit. He was stressing the broader war on terrorism.

I want Osama dead more than anything. I thought he was dead. The country he was running was taken away, he was marginalized, and we haven't been hit since 9/11. I think if the fucker could have done something, he would have done it by now. Instead, he just sends a tape. I still want his head on a stick.

I still want his head on a stick.

You, me and all of America are in sync there!

Thanks for having a place for open dialog!
