On the 19th of this month, Florida Cracker will be one year old.
That's four hurricanes, a Presidential election, and 52 Duane Allman pics.
Thanks to Country Store for my first link, and to Tim Blair, whose site, month after month, is my largest referrer. Mine might be the only blog in the world whose readership is mainly Southerners and Australians.
I'm surprised and honored by all the folks who've come here over the past year. I don't understand why you keep coming back, but I'm very happy that you do.
Thanks, y'all.
Posted by floridacracker at December 1, 2004 06:56 PMI came cuz you're a Cracker gal like me and I come back cuz you're smart and cool and give some of the Lillys of the world a home. What's not to understand? ;-)
Happy Blogiversary!
Posted by: Amy at December 1, 2004 08:36 PMHappy birthday, Donnah. Have you had your first troll yet?
Posted by: Paul at December 1, 2004 09:18 PMYes, I did, Paulie. I had a fellow who thought I was evil and kept hassling me. He said he read me and James Taranto to keep up with what "the extreme right wing" was thinking.
Me and James Taranto!
Thanks for the good wishes and compliments, y'all.
Posted by: Donnah at December 1, 2004 09:23 PMProbably for the same reason I was often on RoD so often when I was bored with the game. You're good company.
Posted by: James at December 1, 2004 09:50 PMWe were on that MUD 11 years ago now, James. Time flies.
Posted by: Donnah at December 1, 2004 09:58 PMMe, I found you when I got curious about "blogging" after Dan Rather's "Memogate." I surfed around and, low and behold, here's this gal calls herself "Florida Cracker: A Southern woman on the net." Good enough for me, since secularly speaking Marse Robert, Elvis, and William Faulkner are the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
And your site is also visually appealing. Good colors, good pictures.
Happy anniversary.
Posted by: Salt Lick at December 2, 2004 08:07 AMCongratulations Donnah. It was only last March when I "discovered" blogs [ shows you how tech-savvy I am] and you were among my first "discoveries" [ I think I found you from a link from Ace, but honestly I can't remember anymore]. You are a talented and witty writer, not to mention that rarest of rareities: A sho-nuff southerner trying to preserve our southern culture down there in the heart of the beast (south Florida)-- that takes courage!
Keep up the good work and see if you can figure out when the Allman Bros played in Doremus Gymnasium at Washington and Lee University in 1971 or 1972.
Posted by: Carl in Atlanta at December 2, 2004 08:14 AMBravo. Keep the South in check and I'll worry about the Northeast. Ace has NY and INDC has Washington covered.
Liked the story about the massive Grinch. I'm still not sure which side I'm rooting for, though.
Posted by: sonofnixon at December 2, 2004 09:02 AMThe name of your blog said it all. I forget exactly when I first saw it, but I knew it'd be a good'n.
Keep it up.
Posted by: ArklahomBoy at December 2, 2004 10:47 AMCongratulations! I don't know how I found you a few months ago,but am so grateful I did. I check your site everyday, and am never disappointed.Great writing. Keep up the good work!
Posted by: SweetHomeAlabama at December 2, 2004 02:21 PMDonnah,
Congratulations and thank you for some great reading! I linked to you for the first time from a post at Ace's. The folks over here all think southern women are like Scarlet O'Hara. Cracks me up how the "side of tolerance" are always so quick to stereotype.
Anyway, keep up the good work!
Posted by: Bohemian Conservative at December 2, 2004 03:00 PMCongrats on the one year! Keep up the good work!
Posted by: Geoff at December 2, 2004 11:27 PMHappy Blogiversary!!!
I stumbled in during the hurricane season. Some fool's live-blogging through it? Jeez! What a nut! Then I realized you were kinda-like hurricane blog central for others throughout the state. And, erm, I never left.
Posted by: Doyle at December 3, 2004 10:33 AMI don't know how I stumbled in here.... I thought it was through Michelle Malkin but I checked and you aren't listed there! What the heck!! :)
I come here because of your honest and humorous way of looking at things. Duane has NOTHING to do with it, rofl
Congrats and many more years to ya!
Cyd
Y'all are the nicest bunch of people. Thanks so much for your company.
