According to the AP poll, after the election and Iraq, the biggest news story of the year was the four hurricanes that hit Florida in a six-week period of time. It made me sad when bloggers I admire didn't think our being smashed to hell even rated a mention when it was going on. Let's see how we fare in the end-of-the-year wrap-ups.
Bitter? Just a tad. This was life or death for my people and the big blog news was Jessica Cutler.
Posted by floridacracker at December 22, 2004 09:39 AMYou were always in my thoughts and prayers during the hurricanes.
This is why I'm thankful I live in earthquake country. There's no warning and they've come and gone in 5 minutes. Hurricanes just keep going and going, and since you can watch their movements, you have to suffer for a nice long time while you wonder where they'll go. Too nerve-wracking, and the swath of destruction is far more devistating.
And then you never know when a gator will up and eat Shaq's dog. Karl Malone never tried to catch Kobe's dog...
Posted by: James at December 22, 2004 02:49 PMSorry, but I didn't even know what a "blog" was until Rathergate. BTW, I went down to where "my people" live in Mississippi to help build a family cottage and guess what? Lowe's and Home Depot were still short on shingles because of repairs being made after the Hurricanes.
Four Hurricanes in six weeks. Jeez.
Posted by: Salt Lick at December 22, 2004 03:58 PMI was ticked with some bloggers, Salt. Not people in general. And I know people in Mississippi, Alabama, and elsewhere were effected by the storms, and am not wanting to denigrate them.
All the death, destruction, and people's lives ripped apart and the big news was some whore in DC. It made me mad then, and I got mad all over again just thinking about it. It was a world of shit down here for a whole lot of folks.
James- Thank you.
I was living out in Monterey when the 1989 earthquake hit. Those were some interesting times too.
I guess the problem was that there was no sex scandal associated with the storms, but I bet our birth rate spikes around April of next year.
It's hard to believe that everyone thinks Cutler was such big news. People here are still trying to put their lives back together and Cutler has long since moved on to her next . . . well, you know.
