One of our nuclear submarines, the USS San Francisco, has run aground south of Guam. Since this is not SOP, I here and now make the prediction that somebody is so fired.
UPDATE:
I've updated here. It doesn't look like the skipper did anything wrong at all.
Yep, when I saw the headline on Yahoo I thought to myself: "The firing of Commanding Officers is starting early this year". (Last year set a record for dismissal of Commanding Officers in the U.S. Navy).
Posted by: Charles Fenwick at January 8, 2005 12:04 PMIt's usually a career ending mistake. Hitting moveable objects isn't a good thing but an imoveable object is inexcusable and will result in loss of command.
Posted by: Gmac at January 8, 2005 05:09 PMWay to go out on a limb, there.
Posted by: Sobek at January 8, 2005 05:12 PMYeah, I boldly proclaim that captain is toast. Unless of course he says that he had no idea that steering was going on aboard his vessel.
Posted by: Donnah at January 8, 2005 06:57 PMA further update on the accident can be read here:

Looks like the charts weren't as accurate as they should have been which may exonerate the Captain.
I apologize for the trite post I made, it was foolish at best.
