It's very cold outside, so there weren't many people out. There were two, however, and Lilly went 50% with them. A lady walking a dog came up behind us on the opposite side of street. I had the hood on my jacket up and missed that one, but Lilly didn't. Bark, lunge. A dog/lady combo might have been too strong to resist, in any case.
We did have success approaching and walking by a man who was walking around his sprinkler truck. She looked at him. Click, treat. She looked at him again. Click, treat. He got back in his truck and we walked by quietly.
We got lots of bags of new, fresh treats for training. I took a suggestion from a book and offered her raisins. Ha. Raisins don't cut it. Raisinettes would, I'm sure.
Posted by floridacracker at January 24, 2005 09:34 AMI tried to clicker train my demon kitty, once. I came to the conclusion that I have adult ADD. And the old water bottle trick... she would lap up the water streams, in mid air. Then I resigned myself to the fact, that she's the kitty of Satan, and who am I to interfere with bible prophesy? Ever see the movie Omen? When she gets in her growlie mood, I cuddle her and remind her that "even Hitler had a mommy". It shuts her up!
BTW, try the Sunmaid, Golden Delicious raisins. Demon kitty swears by them!
Posted by: Princess Kimberley at January 24, 2005 12:14 PMHmmm. One time my kids made a snowman and used raisins to make the eyes, nose, and mouth. When the dogs got out, they ate Frosty's face off. Bad dog, bad.
Posted by: Salt Lick at January 24, 2005 12:23 PMYou mentioned Raisiettes. I'm sure you are already aware of this, but I just wanted to make sure. Chocolate is very toxic to dogs, and can even be fatal. I'm not sure why, though.
Posted by: Nathan at January 24, 2005 12:59 PMToo funny, Kim.
Yes, chocolate is toxic, much like alcohol is toxic to humans. I was just saying that she'd definitely consider raisinettes a fitting treat. Tasty.
I knew some people that for treats they gave their dog ice cubes. That makes me sad just thinking about it.
Poor faceless Frosty. That's kind of sad too.
Posted by: Donnah at January 24, 2005 05:04 PMPlease give your loyal readers a quickstart on Lilly's situation. I've been reading your blog for a long time but I'm still perplexed about Lilly's circumstance. It's kinda like tuning into a radio station and the host is talking about a subject for 30 minutes but never says "oh, by the way, in case you've just tuned in, we are talking with Florida Cracker about her dog Lilly..."
Please create a permanant link to Lilly's story--I'm sure she deserves it (and new readers will no longer be out of the loop).
Thanks,
David
Posted by: David at January 25, 2005 01:07 AMYou're right, David. I've added a sidebar section with Lilly's original history. Thank you for the great suggestion.
