No Pope funeral for Jimmy Carter, badmouther of sitting presidents.

Posted by: pam at April 6, 2005 09:28 AMPresident Carter did host a visit to the Pope at the Whitehouse, no one can dispute this.
But that visit was in 1979, his last year in office (Thankfully!). It wasn't as if he had a long relationship with the Pope (as a sitting President) as the other three enjoyed.
Clearly, had he lived and had been able, President Reagan would have been included before Mr. Carter.
Posted by: Charlie on the Pennsylvania Turnpike at April 6, 2005 09:48 AMI'm sure he'd start bad-mouthing Bush (and probably the Pope) the second he set foot in Europe.
Can't help himself.
Posted by: John from WuzzaDem at April 6, 2005 12:01 PMNo offense to Jimmy, but his request is obviously self-serving.
Beyond that, he had the opportunity to attend Pope Paul VI and Pope John Paul I's funerals, but snubbed the Catholic Church both times....
In any event, it is sad that much of media's focus is on Jimmy Carter, and not the Pope John Paul II's life and accomplishments.

I echo BB's remarks.
It is hard to find the appropriate words to describe Jimmy Carter. He is very vain man with a very flawed view of thw World. Carter did nore to oppose the cause of freedom than any modern President. Carter oppposed freedom as President and he still opposes freedom.
