There's another anniversary today. It's a sad one, but in the end it was the catalyst that got us to get our act together. 25 years ago today, Operation Eagle Claw put paid to the limp, lame, soft-spoken-but-no-stick-holding presidency of James Earl Carter.
We'd had as much of Jimmy Carter, and of defeat, as we could possibly bear.
One great thing about being a native Georgian (and old, I guess) is that I had eight opportunities to vote against Jimmy Carter - and I took advantage of every one of them.

When Eagle Claw happened I remember thinking "That's it. Enough of this guy."
A lot of other people had the same thought.
Kerry just sounded like Carter, Jr. to me.

Posted by: ArklahomBoy at April 25, 2005 01:58 PMRoss Perot was the one who was out there reminding people how to be Americans.
Posted by: Donnah at April 26, 2005 09:10 AMI remember that day, I was returing from Frankfurt to my home station and remember nt=oting that all along the autobahn that there were Polezi armed with machine guns on every overpass. When I saw this I remember thinking, "what's goin on". When I got home my unit was on alert, and I heard the news, I couldn't believe it...conservatives gained an ally that day.
I was a young and dumb Democrat before that day, I was a Reagan supporter after.
