If you never get out to Nevada to Max Baer Jr's planned Beverly Hillbillies-themed casino, at least you can visit the website.
It is a disturbed mind that had a vision of male bartenders dressed as Granny, spitting alcohol onto flaming torches.
Indeed, the whole enterprise may be a cry for help.
Then again, the guy does have a degree in business, and as a director spent $110 thousand to make Macon County Line - and earned himself a profit of $25 million.
Speaking of movies, today Max offered a good quote regarding what he sees as the misrepresention of his father's character in the movie Cinderella Man: "They didn't have to make him an ogre to make Jimmy Braddock a hero."
They do if it's a Ron Howard film. He's about as subtle as Elly May's wardrobe.
Forget the casino and bar, Max is going to be making personal appearances to promote his new "Bubblin' Crude" slot machine.
This guy has spent years running from any association with The Beverly Hillbillies, now it's all-Jethro-all-the-time.
America - what a country!

Posted by: Donnah at June 3, 2005 08:47 PMJethro's place looks like a cross between the Adams Family and Steven King's THE STAND. Or, perhaps I should say, "a marriage between..."

Posted by: -S- at June 4, 2005 01:42 AMI could never figure out if Max was running from Jethro or pretending to run. I saw him years ago on a late-night talk show, probably Carson, where he appeared to pitch one of his movies. He complained about Jethro, but was dressed in a shiny white suit, with an open shirt and a huge gold medallion. He looked exactly like Jethro in his Hollywood movie baron phase. It was a hoot, but I could not figure out if he intended it to be funny. I decided he's either an idiot or a genius, but I still haven't decided which.

I've come down on the side that he's clever. The business degree combined with the returns on Macon County Line combined with being the first to make a movie about a song (Ode to Billy Joe. There's been 180-something song movies since), tells me he's got something going on upstairs.
"Jethro's Hollywood movie baron phase." Hee. I know the episode you mean.
