Lost Parks Of Florida

It's surprising how many of these places I've been to.

Fred Bear Museum in Gainesville? Fred put an arrow in just about every large mammal on the planet. If there were still wooly mammoths lumbering around, he'd have nocked arrows for one of those guys too. Then he'd have stuffed him and put him in the museum with the others.

Honey Bee Factory in South Fort Myers? I've seen the hive, baby.

Waltzing Waters in Cape Coral? The sound of the Wurlitzer still echoes faintly in my mind.

We were hard, hard, hard up for entertainment back then.

Wow, I didn't know the Fred Bear museum closed. Of course I try to drive through Gainesville as fast as possible when travelling on 75, so I haven't stopped in a while.

I have some fond memories of Six Gun Territory while growing up in Ocala. There is a shopping center there now called, of course, Six Gun Plaza.

And I always tried to get my Dad to take me to see the Cross and Sword thing while in St. Augustine, but he never would.

We used to go to St. Augustine a lot and I remember all the billboards for The Cross and the Sword. They said "Starring Richard Boone of 'Have Gun, Will Travel'. We never went either.
After multiple times passed, and incessant nagging from the sister, we finally stopped at that huge store along the highway in Ocala that sold western and Indian stuff. My sister got an expensive pair of knee-high mocassin boots with fringe, which she wore exactly once. She said they made her knees look fat.

And the Shell Factory, of course.

Though that's not lost, nevermind.

Richard Boone as Ponce de Leon, that would have been classic. Which reminds me, HGWT season two box set is out on DVD.
