They just announced on TV that Sandra Day O'Connor is retiring.
She's sent a letter President Bush saying that she'll step down as soon as her replacement is found.
Things are about to get very interesting.

Posted by: Salt Lick at July 1, 2005 10:45 AMWow-- huge news! I keep hearing about Judge Mukasey along with Gonzalez and Janice Rogers Brown. Mukasey is less well known, but is a conservative law and order guy. I think he would be a good choice.

Some in the administration apparently believe he has wider appeal and more conservative values that Gonzalez and Brown. He's not well known so that might hurt his chances. But I've heard that the administration has already reached out to him.
