Loved these photos...very tired by this hour, typing very badly, but wanted to let you know before I close for this day that yours is about the most unique thread about the day's events as I've seen anywhere.

Glad you liked the pics.
Our response to heightened threat is to call out in force an ally capable of smelling danger in the air.

" My eyes are your eyes,
to watch and protect you and yours.

My ears are your ears,
to hear and detect evil minds in the dark.

My nose is your nose,
to scent the invader of your domain.

And so you may live,
my life is also yours."

great post, loved the dogs, guys weren't too shabby either. I like to think my two dogs think like your above prose. Although I do truly believe they feel this is their house and they just let me live here.

Heh, well that poem is about police dogs. With my dogs it would go something like:

Your food is my food,
for I love to eat.

Your couch is my couch,
for I desire to lounge on soft surfaces.

Your time is my time,
for I want to be amused.

And so I might sleep more comfortably,
your bed is also mine.

It's a blessing having those police dogs out there using their skills and training to help keep us safe.
It's icing on the cake that our enemies have never had enough sense to appreciate a dog's value.

Great post; I always love seeing police dogs! They have the faculties man lacks.

Stay safe during the hurricane... I think the cone will stay offshore, but tropical storm force winds are nothing to sneeze at, either! ;)

I was talking about dogs with a Vietnam veteran friend of mine. His hooch was near a unit of the K-9 corps and he saw that those boys got incredibly close to their dogs. He said more than once, when a dog soldier's tour of duty was ending, he saw them go out and sleep in their dog's kennel.

THAT makes me cry.

A kennel I worked at housed a year-round police dog that had become deranged by it's duties. "Gimpy" was kept carefully locked up, as it would immeadiately attack anyone who came near it - - police officers visited often and brought treats, which had to be tossed in between the chain-links - - the dog recognized absolutely no one as a friend. Over the years it got out just once and quickly left a permanent scar on the face of the kennel manager. Just feeding and cleaning the dog's run (a big long cage) was a challenge. They loved that dog, but it was as dangerous as a bomb.

Salt-They're still thinking about them too. One has added an image of his dog Prince seeming to look for his own name on the Vietnam Wall.

Stop it, Donnah! I haven't teared up like this since my favorite chain saw died.

God, Erik, that's awful.

Last year a local K-9 officer was killed in the line of the duty assisting his human partner. His funeral was amazing. Police from every county in Florida sent reps.

I'm still thinking about that cop in Arizona a couple of years ago who got surprised and overpowered by a bad guy who was going to kill him. He hit the button on his belt that released the dog from his patrol car. It made all the difference.

SL - sleeping in the doghouse makes me cry too.

All I have to say to you, Bill, is "Old Yeller" and "My Dog Skip."

LOL@Bill.

I love dogs. I especially love dogs when they're chewing up some miscreant who resisted arrest.

On COPS I get a kick out of the cops warning some hiding criminal that if he doesn't come out they're going to send in the dog.
Such a reaction that gets.

Well, I didn't wake up crying but I sure am now, after seeing this...the very image of my last Shephard...

** Sniff ** Sniff**

I just couldn't resist an opportunity to one-up Bill.

I love how the doggies love their work. You can tell in their body language. Fun stuff. Isn't it telling that Islamicists hate and fear dogs?
