Enjoy a creepy tale of divers bringing a ten-year's-dead body up from the biggest underwater cave in the world. What could possibly go wrong?
Posted by floridacracker at July 24, 2005 12:02 PMJust finished reading the story. Reminds me of that book, "Into Thin Air", about a another "man vs. nature" disaster on Mt. Everest. In some ways these stories seem like such a needless waste of effort and life. But on another level they exemplify the very best aspects of the human spirit. It's odd that so many pure adventurers are (and have always been) quite willing to risk certain death
Posted by: Carl in Atlanta at July 24, 2005 05:44 PMIsn't that funny; it made me think of "Into Thin Air" as well. Probably because of all the disaster caused by muddled brains.
I can't not think of "Into Thin Air" without thinking of Beck Wethers, left for dead for the hundredth time, crying "What's a guy got to do to get some help around here?"
Posted by: Donnah at July 24, 2005 05:52 PMWow. Simply wow. I'm stunned; thanks to previous comments, as well as other recommendations, I have to put "Into Thin Air" on my to-be-read list.
Posted by: Gunner at July 25, 2005 11:25 PMI stayed up all night reading that book and went into work the next day with raccoon eyes.
Excellent story-telling by Krakauer.
