Angels Unaware

There's a book coming out next month about Zubaida Hasan, a little Afghan girl horribly burned and disfigured in a cooking accident. It took a long chain of people to get Zubaida the help she needed, but I'll always wonder about the anonymous Green Beret who first saw her on the street and decided to take her to the base for medical treatment. He wasn't a surgeon who could restore her, but it was his actions that made it all happen.

There's lots of good video of her, but this one's my favorite. Hearing her sing "Sweet Home, Alabama" is too much.
Watch the video. You won't be sorry.

Isn't it an awesome story? That girl has personality plus.
Yay for the soldier on that street in Khandahar.

What all of you have written (^^) and most importantly, what Zubaida Hasan has said and the soldier, too, who started the process. Sometimes us humans really do wonderful things in terrible circumstances. Every time I read this story, I think about just how good some of us can be and are.

Glad that amongst all that shit , some of the boys have the guts , fortitude & downright "heart" to offset the moral load placed upon them by the President .
It may be the last good deed they do before they " depart " this mortal coil" & i know someone is looking , smiling & protecting all involved .

May it lighten their hearts in the "temple of osiris"

Great post,
The girl brought a tear to the eye of this cynical old Bluesman. Its nice to see the good side of humanity once in a while.

I caught her story a while back in a magazine, and I was left in tears. I'm so glad that someone else was as touched by her story as I was. I didn't know there were links to her online as well--I'm going to have to check these out!

Those before and after pictures are so uplifting, I still get misty-eyed just looking at them. It's so good to know there are still compassionate people in the world!
