There are a lot of happy worker bees this evening: tomorrow's been declared a hurricane day, and that situation will probably hold throughout the weekend. Right now it's like putting on an old coat and finding a twenty in the pocket.
It's also a chance to witness the craziness only the first threatening hurricane of the season can bring -- like lines of cars going the wrong way down a one-way street just to get in the line at the gas station.
This Katrina didn't bother forming over by Africa, but instead sprung up almost full-grown from the Bahamas. So here she is, and we've got coffee and movies, and we're feeling pretty snug tonight.
Hopefully it's not going to be too bad. Normally, the main problem around these parts is people getting electrocuted after it's all over.

Ah, hurricane days. Loved em. When the things didn't hit full force, of course.
But in DC we have it better - snow days. As in, whenever the place gets even a sprinkling of snow, the whole city shuts down. People in Buffalo would sneer.
Posted by: Bill from INDC at August 24, 2005 09:42 PMNice deal for you. I lived in snowy Germany for three years and they never gave us a single snow day off. They would just call us very, very early in the morning to tell us to drive carefully on the way in.
I had no clue what an ice storm was until they called to tell me to be careful driving through it on the way to work. Ha. One step out of the front door I was on my ass. Driving in, there were cars sliding all over the autobahn, dozens of cars piled into snowbanks on the sides of the highways, and there's this Florida girl creeping down the road to work. I was hoping I wasn't in anyone's trajectory because there sure as hell wasn't any way to dodge anybody.

I don't take them lightly, but you'd think this was the end of the world. And, of course, the cat-up-a-tree media do everything possible to get everyone worked up. Great Blog! Great Post!
Posted by: patd95 at August 25, 2005 01:16 PMHey Cracker, if you still have power and Internet access go check out the middle column on Drudge's front page. The Bardot story - guess it takes all kinds of a-holes to make up a world...Sort of makes you wish that whole divine judgment thing would speed up a bit.
BTW, we're going to see Alice Cooper and Cheap Trick tonight.
Stay safe and dry!
Posted by: John Climacus at August 25, 2005 01:41 PMI can tell from the title I don't want to read that one, John. Have fun at the concert. That Robin Zander was such a cutie.
Pat- Thanks for the compliments. Where are you in Florida?
