As I've written before, whenever there's a disaster, the Humane Society of the United States sends out emergency response teams. The HSUS holds a formal agreement with FEMA and the Red Cross to provide disaster relief for animals, and works side-by-side with them.
If any of my readers send in a donation to the HSUS Disaster Fund, the ASPCA Disaster Relief Fund, the Louisiana SPCA, the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, or the Houston SPCA; I'll match it. Just e-mail me the receipt they provide. When it gets to $1000, I'll holler.
The address for receipt-forwarding is: floridacracker61ATyahooDOTcom
*The Humane Society of South Mississippi doesn't have a way to donate online. Presently, even their snail mail is not being delivered.
I love buying myself expensive jewelry of every kind of gemstone. Surely y'all won't make me spend the whole $1000 on a bunch of soggy strays?

Thanks, y'all. I'll post a wrap-up in just a bit.

I've finished sending the donations. Just as I love nice jewelry, I also love nice, round numbers.
For the HSUS, Cracker is matching $800.00
For the LASPCA, Cracker is matching $25.00 rounded to $100.00
For the GBHS, Cracker is matching $200.00
For the ASPCA, Cracker is matching $275.00 rounded to $300.00
For the HSPCA, Cracker is matching $195.00 rounded to $200.00
If any of y'all want to match me the difference of $205.00 $105.00, that would be awesome. (Thank you, Abby!)
It'd be especially nice if someone did some donating to the Louisiana SPCA.
I've checked y'all's receipts, and someone's checked mine. I sent them off to John of WuzzaDem's lovely wife Mrs. R, of Are You Conservative?
Thanks so much for allowing me the opportunity to stretch your donations to aid those wet noses in Katrina Country who need a hand right now. Together we raised $3,100.00.
The donations have been dispersed and the fund is closed. The places I listed still need help, so those that can give, please do so.
Thanks for going off with me on this tear. It's been fun.
UPDATE 9/6/05
Wrestling News is offering matching funds to the HSUS. Give them a visit!

I posted on your offer. Hope you don't mind that I cut and pasted this whole post. You explained it better than I could -- I'd just have been repeating what you said, using more words than necessary to repeat your message.

Sorry for the cut-and-paste URL. Linking didn't seem to work.
Posted by: dymphna at August 31, 2005 12:43 PMOh, yeah, I also linked to this over at lgf's open thread on Katrina. Hope you get a bucket load of donations.
I'll do ours after I finish the Watcher's Council readings...
Posted by: dymphna at August 31, 2005 12:44 PMI've sent $25 each to the first three but I can't find the link to the secured server on the South Mississippi site. I emailed them for help. Maybe my firewall is blocking a pop-up but it usually does notify me. I'll email you the receipts from my Rlinda11 addy for the match!!
What a wonderful campaign you're sponsoring. I hope other bloggers will do the same!!
Well, aren't y'all sweet!
Thanks for the advertising, Dymphna.
Texas Gal, the Humane Society of South Mississippi does NOT have online donation capability. As you've donated to all the others, if you send them a check by snail mail, I'll match that.
I'm updating the post to include the snail mail for the HSSM.
With my dribbly dial up it was taking forevvvver to load up the credit card thingie. SO I printed out the form and will mail it tomorrow on my way to Richmond.
I was going to make it for 25.00 but Amazaon just sent me a notice that all of the Baron's Boys text books from last year sold so I have some extra. Amount will be 50.00 instead.
It'll be awhile till I get the receipt so hold onto some of that jewelery money...
Posted by: dymphna at August 31, 2005 06:22 PMWho are you donating to, Dymphna?
Posted by: Donnah at August 31, 2005 06:35 PMCracker,
I am trying to send you documentation of my contribution, but hotmail says that your web adress is not recognized. Is there some other adress I can use?

I haven't been having any trouble with

but then I have a Yahoo address. Being with the same service might make a difference.

I was going to download the form from LA Humane Society because I was having trouble with loading the security page. So I printed it out and realized..oops. I talked to the guys at the post office today when I went to mail the Baron's Boy some of his stuff for school and there is no mail delivery...pages and pages of zip codes with no mail delivery for the foreseeable future. We all looked at it in awe.
Soo...I tried the HSUS. Got everything into the page and then my computer wonked again. I think they got their 50.00. I will check tomorrow online to see if it's on my credit card...
I *hate* dial up!!!
Posted by: dymphna at August 31, 2005 08:02 PMDonnah: I want to give, but I don't want to get on anyone [else's] mailing list. How 'bout I give it to you and you give it for me?
Sorry to be so "howard hughsian", but i been there an' done that too many times before...
Advise.

Hmm. OK, Mr. Hughes, check your e-mail.
Posted by: Donnah at August 31, 2005 09:05 PMWell, my dear Donnah, this stingy conservative opened her pocketbook for the puppies and kitties. Please don't tell me I have to be a hippie now.;-) I do a little volunteer work at a Kentucky Humane Society Off-site Adoption Center, so this donation is in honor of all my babies there.

Posted by: Kiki B. at September 2, 2005 01:38 AMNo, it does not. Would you send me an attached receipt from the HSUS, please?
Posted by: Donnah at September 2, 2005 01:43 AMmuchos gracias. spot would say thanks too if she weren't a cat who couldn't care less since she's fat, too smart for her own good, and happy.
Sorry about your jewelry... ;)
Posted by: Spot's Keeper at September 2, 2005 02:03 AMThat's the way, Kiki. Thanks.
Posted by: Donnah at September 2, 2005 02:13 AMThank you. You are doing a good thing.
Posted by: Cathy at September 2, 2005 06:33 AMjust wanted to say that i think it is great you are doing this and that there are people like you out there. thanks again. tara
I've tried to send my receipts to both addresses since before 3pm, HONEST! First try at 12:45 to be exact. Each effort is flagged with: Microsoft Outlook does not recognize...
Hate to miss the matching funds, but the Houston SPCA, the HSUS, the ASPCA, and the GBHS benefit nonetheless. Know you will be stunning in your oval earbobs.
Regards.
As a staff member at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society (www.gbhs.org), I would like to thank you for supporting the efforts of animal caretakers during this event! If anyone wishes to donate to our efforts but does NOT want to be added to a mailing list, all they need to do is make a note in the comments section of our donation form and we will NOT send them unwanted solicitations! Keep up the good work!
Posted by: tonya at September 2, 2005 05:48 PMSo, did the donation from my lovely wife and me not count?
Posted by: John from WuzzaDem at September 2, 2005 05:56 PMI didn't even see that, John!!! It was all the way down at the bottom of a regular letter.
Hold on, let me change some stuff and send another donation!
Tonya- thanks for doing what you do.
Posted by: Donnah at September 2, 2005 07:30 PMNo problem. Wouldn't even bring it up, but I was asking other people to donate, and dont want them to think I'm a "cheapskate."
8^)
Nah, you're no cheapskate. That was a nice donation. Tough getting people to give money, though, ain't it? Which makes Andrew Sullivan's "bandwidth" scam all the more amazing.
Posted by: Donnah at September 3, 2005 03:15 PMHow do people donate to the LA/ASPCA? The only thing I saw on their website was the U.S. mail address. I just checked usps.com and the zip code for their New Orleans branch is among the ones for which mail is not being accepted.
Posted by: Kat at September 8, 2005 08:03 PMThe LA SPCA has lost their computers and their regular online donation system. On their website is now a Paypal button. It works well, so give it a click.
