Animal Relief Matching Fund

$380 so far. Keep it not coming, y'all. With the leftover matching funds I can still buy these beautiful round diamond hoop earrings.
You'll not be able to pull me away from the mirror!

UPDATE
$680. Damn your eyes, John and Elizabeth from Hawaii. Now I have to drop down a price range at Zales.

UPDATE II
This is hi-larious. John over at WuzzaDem thinks his readership is the sort that would spend a penny to aid the sweet, helpless canine victims of hurricane Katrina. You got another think comin', bud. My matching funds are safe with your crew. Unless of course I do matching funds for pr0n.

UPDATE III September 2nd
$945. Mmm. I can still get these lovely oval aquamarine studs with what I don't have to spend on matching donations. I already have aquamarine posts, but they're round and not oval. I need oval.

UPDATE IV
$1045, thanks to repeat offenders John and Elizabeth in Hawaii, who'd take the gold out my teeth if they could.

I'll honor the matching of donations that come until 3:00. p.m. Eastern.

***
$1145, due to the determined effort of Stephan P. in Rhode Island to deny me my rightful adornments.

***
$1195, as Dymphna taunts me by offering a mood ring, then sets the clock back on her e-mail to make it look like the receipt was just real slow arriving.

UPDATE V
How did I end up matching $1600 in donations? That wasn't the plan. If y'all really cared about me, you'd want me well-accessorized.

Go look at how y'all cramped my style.

A big thank you to everyone who participated. We raised $3,100.00. It's been surprisingly time-consuming to do this, and I look forward to getting a chance to catch up on all y'all's comments in the other posts.

Though the fund has been dispersed and I'm no longer matching, these organizations I listed still need your help.

Thanks for all the fun, y'all.

Comments

I figured since you are the only person I see raising money or pushing aid for pets and animals this was the place to post this. I hope you don't mind me spamming your comments section for this letter I sent to my fellow JRT owners:

When disasters of this magnitude strike it is difficult to determine what you can do to help. Most people are awe struck by the destruction and despair and just don’t know where to begin.

Donating money, blood, food or time are great ways to help and we encourage everyone to do so. Another way to help is to be specific, helping people with unique problems, or unique relationships to you, something the Red Cross and other Aid organizations are not designed to do. The JRTCA family is such a group with such a need.

In an effort to contribute, specific members of the Sunshine State Jack Russell Terrier Club in the Tallahassee, FL area are organizing relief efforts for members of the JAck Russell Terrier Club of America (JRTCA) or owners of Jack Russell Terriers affected by the recent storms. Because of our experience, association and resources we are uniquely qualified to help victims with Jack Russell terriers.

AM Jacks and Jacks B Quick are trying to get the word out. We are making available our homes, dinner tables, yards, property, kennels, and dog food for JRTCA members and their dogs that can make their way to the Tallahassee, FL area.

Please, help us to spread the word, and if possible, participate in our effort. Respond to this email with suggestions and/or offers of aid and comfort and I will add to the list. The list will be published on the internet at www.amjacks.com and www.jacksbquick.com. These are the things we can make available –

AM Jacks – We have a fenced in backyard, screened patio porch, bedroom available for one or two humans, and one or two dogs
Jacks B Quick – We have 5 acres, empty kennel space, multiple fenced areas, racing track, large camper trailer, space for additional camper trailers, room for multiple dogs

We are looking forward to offering our homes, meals and bathrooms to any JRTCA members in need and within reach.

We aren’t sure of the magnitude of the need, and we recognize this effort could last for many months to come, but help is needed and we can offer it. If we have success and are able to help those in need, these are the things we will need as donations or care packages:

Contributions for food, both pet and human
Toiletries for humans
Possibly crates for pets.

Think about how you can help or how you can help us help others. Please email Thomas and Sherri Croom at thomas@annmaarten.com or call 919-656-5046 (cell) or 850-264-8817, or Travis and Jennifer Hallman at jacksbquick@aol.com or call 850-576-5552 (home).

I ain't holding my breath.

No prob, Mr. C. Glad those crazy-ass Jack Russells got people concerned about their welfare.
I've passed along your info to HurricAid.

Long-time WuzzaDem reader KikiB:

Well, John, Florida Cracker's Bling is getting smaller all the time. I just donated $20 to her effort. :-) And they say we conservatives don't have a heart for puppies. Hmph!

Hope you stocked up on "jewelry", I hear the DTs can be murder.

Your people do much better with pictures, don't they, John? All that text with instructions gets 'em CORNFUSED.

Posted by: Donnah at September 2, 2005 01:33 AM

Thank You.

Posted by: Mr. C at September 2, 2005 07:51 AM

Hmmm...you mean you can set the time back on EMAILS? That could get interesting...

I'm lucky I got thru at all. The other day my dribbly dial-up ate the donation. This time it did go thru. Only took ten minutes, too.

For jewelery, get you one of them 4 leaf clovers in glassand put it on a leather braid. Makes a fine necklace for a Cracker.

Donnah, I assume you've seen this one (via Daily Pundit):
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/12539162.htm

"Humane Society of Broward County staff will leave on Saturday to assist the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in helping the animals displaced as a result of Hurricane Katrina.

"A team of seven from the Broward group will help set up a staging ground in Houston to care for animals from New Orleans.

"The Broward group set up a similar shelter on the west coast of Florida in the aftermath of last year's hurricanes."

OK Donnnah, admit it: you've got a tiger by the tail; Stop this mad matching, unless you really are Donnah Hughes! At least draw a line at a grand and buy yourself that mood ring. I GUARANTEE that this regular reader, at least, will breathe a sigh of relief, and I bet I'm not alone!

You're too good for your own damn good!

I'm done Carl. There was a flurry of last minute stuff that had to be honored.
It's not being good; it's just being a Southerner.

I'm Sorry I couldn't contribute, but I had already sent $100.00 to the Salvation Army and being retired with a small check and my expenses setting up my GrandDaughter with new school clothes and such, I'm just a little broke.

I am sure all of our animal friends appriciate it, because their faith, loyalty and love for us is unmatched. God loves them.

Thank you for loving them.

Even without a match, I donated to the SPCA in honor of Florida Cracker, logged it at the blogathon, wherever it is, and I was put on to this whole thing by John at Wuzzadem. So there. :~P

Posted by: Stephanie at September 3, 2005 10:38 AM

Baron, no I hadn't seen it. Thanks. I'm reading about it now.

Ray- if you ain't got it, you ain't got it. It's people who have it, but don't give that I have a problem with. A key point of my personal philosophy has been and will remain:
I cannot abide a cheap man. That's a character flaw with no offsetting charm.
Stephanie- you're a piece of sugar, thank you. The ASPCA rocks.
