We'd Have Settled For "Adequate"

An erstwhile ally has finished her assessment of whether Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco was capable of having greatness thrust upon her:

Sen. Mary Landrieu called Friday for President Bush to appoint a cabinet-level official to direct the federal response to the devastation along the Gulf Coast caused by Hurricane Katrina.

Landrieu, a Louisiana Democrat, said she asked Bush during his tour of New Orleans on Friday to act within 24 hours to put a single official in charge of the overall relief effort who would report directly to him.

That person usually goes by the title "Governor."
"The suffering has gone on long enough," she said. "Now is the time for action."

Yep. There's always got to be someone in charge.

In my long life I have seen much. I have seen circumstances of faith, folly and fear thrust upon many people. Few, very few are up to the moment. Up to the challenge and the responsiblity.

That moment, that time is never the right time. There is never a right time to have to become more than you thought you could be. To become someone you should and must be.

Sometimes it is more than that person can handle and they must be assisted and the crisis resolved. No matter if it is a new mother overcome with responsibility or a Governor unable to handle the responsibilities of her position, be slow and kind with your blame, lest you be condemmed in your time of trial.

Doesn't anyone wonder why Rudy Guliani was the man-of-the-hour and the Time person of the year? He did his job (and then some) after 9/11.

He called for help when he needed it, but he did not walk away from his responsibility.

Now we have a mayor and a gov. waiting to be rescued in the Big Easy. Disgusting.

That's how I feel about it, ZD. You run for governor, be prepared. At the press conference last week I saw she was a no-go. This lady acted like the WIFE of a governor.

Blank-o the same.

There are still many, many people trapped in their attics. Their pleas for help are heartbreaking

President Bush wasn't in charge of those hundreds of school and city buses that weren't used for evacuation.
I got in an argument today with someone suffering Bush Derangement Syndrome. It ended badly.
The Federal Government is not a first responder. I wonder at what point so many people forgot that.

When I learn how to turn off the caps-lock key, I'll leave a comment here. I understand it's rude to come here and scream.

BUSH IS THE GUY WHO...

wait a second wheres that funny caps lock button?

Bush is the guy who pressured the Louisiana officials to declare an exacuation of New Orleans Saturday night. Louisiana simply wasn't going to get with it.

Looks like all the 'facts' got blown out of Louisiana when Katrina headed north.

Did I imagine a long and mad all-cap post in comments? It seems to have departed?

Posted by: Erik at September 4, 2005 07:22 AM

You did. Two of 'em. He's taking his keyboard to the repair shop. It was stuck in caps.
