W, Cut Michael Brown Loose

I've posted plenty on FEMA director Michael Brown. The errors FEMA made in Florida last year were compounded by his congenital inability to accept any criticism of his agency as valid and make the necessary changes.
Now I hear he came into this job with all the experience that running an Arabian horse association brings.
That's not good enough, President Bush. This isn't an ambassadorial posting in Liechtenstein; there are just too many things that can go wrong when you screw this job up.

Hey Cracker -- Just got back from a three day trip to south Mississippi to take water, fuel, and food to my brother and dad. I don't feel I can adequately describe what I saw. I guess "devastation" comes to mind.

With regard to this at the Michelle Malkin link you posted:

"It took four days to begin a large-scale evacuation of people stranded in the Superdome stadium and to bring in significant amounts of food and water to an American city easily accessible by motorway," the Observer notes. "Relief agencies took half that time to reach Indonesia after the Boxing Day tsunami. "

it doesn't make sense to me. Does Michelle understand that the way you drive to New Orleans is over raised causeways over the swamp? And that in some places those causeways were covered with water?

Of course, I've been on the road for most of 3 days, am a little punchy, and haven't had much time to read up on this, but Michelle seems to be missing the boat. (no pun intended).

Yeah, she blew that one. "Motorway" is a generic term. "Causeway" gives you a clearer picture. A bit of geographical knowledge would have been nice too. My beef with FEMA chief Brown is for Florida last year. I'm still grinding that freakin' ax.

I'm glad you made it back OK, I know it was a rough trip. What all stuff did you tote over?

My brother-is-law has a hazardous waste removal company and was in NO just last month. Him and my sister were watching the coverage and he said "Some of that garbage isn't from the hurricane. I think that particular pile was there when I was. I never saw such a filthy place in all my life."
He's a hoot.

W didn't have any business rewarding his bud with such a crucial job. I hate that shit.

I hauled in bottled water, food, and cans of gasoline. My sisters came from Houston and brought the same but also a generator. Brother is sitting pretty right now since he's in the country with his own well, too. He's good now. Figure we won't be able to talk by telephone another week or two.

Gasoline is scarce south of Jackson and Meridian. A few stations open with long lines, but most just out of fuel altogether. Everyone with gas cans in their truck beds and on their car roofs.

I encountered several drivers carrying TRANSPARENT RUBBER 50 GALLON BARRELS OF GASOLINE in the beds of their trucks. All I could think was "unintentional suicide bomber" and slow down to let them get way ahead of me.

I hate dealing with fuel. I always burn something down.
Glad your brother is set.
