Last night Hollywood star Sean Penn joined the desperate search for hurricane survivors in New Orleans.

The frantic actor begged rescue crews to take him out to a house owned by pals near the 17th Street Canal. He had not heard from them since the area was flooded by up to 20ft of water.

Mystic River hunk Sean, 45, refused to name his friends, but said he could not bear watching rescues from his San Francisco home, knowing they could be dying.

He said: “I’m really worried. I need to go out and find them.”

Rescuers ferried him to the canal area.

They insisted he wear a bullet-proof vest — fearing he may be shot by local gangs who refuse to be evacuated.

Well, if Doug Brinkley says it, it must be true. After all, he's never been known to be anything less than scrupulously truthful in the past.

Sean Penn is one of my favorite present day camera whores, a relatively untalented pseudo-actor who got lucky with one film and now thinks he's God's gift to the world.

Unless he's billed with some really good actors, I will never see any of his future films.

I couldn't but feel sorrow and disgust when I saw Penn's performance on TV. Yet, if it does any good, here in Spain all the actors and directors are just like that. Almodovar had a press conference to announce the right wing was about to take power by force.

I am from Marrero,La.(the westbank of New Orleans) I am under a mandatory evacuation for at least 1 month, if I could be there, I WOULD. Also I am personaly very grateful for your, along with everyone else's, efforts to help in New Orleans, home to many of my friends.

I think sean was simply getting into character for the movie "New Orleans" a new catastrophe movie featuring sean as the biyou raised hero,(a.k.a. southern cracker) who of course will have to use the "n" word while he's trying to rescue a stubborn black person from the flood waters. Or maybe he will play the idiot president ,or the unqualified fema chief. Then of course there will be the romance interwoven. Maybe he could have a love scene with Oprah winfrey at the superdome...haha
