Wednesday's Duane Allman Pic

duanecanoe.jpg
Butch didn't make the pic. Guess the photographer thought the band had too many damn drummers too.
Wail on, Skydog!

UPDATE
This pic was taken the same day. These are the only pics I've seen of that particular shirt of Duane's.

Still, that's one long canoe...

That lake looks a little like the one on the cover of Anthology.

Looks like it might be at Lakeside Park in Macon. Phil owned it at one time.

I'm very sad to report that Dru Lombar, guitarest with the Brothers opening act, Grinderswitch, died last week from heart trouble. Dru was a great guy and a great guitar player. I'll certainly miss him.

Could be. Looks like too fancy of a shirt for Duane to be wearing to a park. Especially considering some of those rags he wore on stage.
He did need some help with his clothes.

I was just reading Red Dog's "Book of Tails" & he mentions this very picture (canoe shot). Twiggs took it,
and staged it with the guys sitting in the order which they joined the band ... Yeah, it's in "Anthology".

Shouldn't Jaimoe have been second, then?
The problem with Red Dog's book is that there's too much crap in there about Red Dog. I had to pick out a sentence here and a sentence there that was worth reading.
Thanks for the info on the pics' provenance.

That's clearly not Lakeside Park, so I was incorrect about that. It does look more like North Florida.

Well, I didn't want to contradict you, but to me that does look like North Florida.

Yeah, I was thinking North Florida too; most of the cypress trees in GA have long since been cut down and made into coffee tables (last refuge is the Okeefenokee Swamp, which might as well be Fla.). Also, if you look at the cover shot on the Anthology album, that background looks really Florida-like.

Thought Greg was the last to join. Looks like N. Fla. to me too. When I was stationed at N.A.S. Jax, I took a day trip to a park south of Jacksonville and this looks a lot like it.

Donnah, I agree with your take on Red Dog's book; he's a little full of himself & it's a quick read if you edit out the stories about him. And if they were in the order of joining, Jaimoe should be second, Berry third, and little brother Gregg should be "cut off" at the end.
But hey, I'm only quoting what Red Dog said; un-biased, objective journalism on my part.
