-"See, what Bush wants," said poet Amiri Baraka, after performing at a free jazz benefit in Manhattan's Lower East Side, "is to make New Orleans like his mother -- shriveled and colorless."
-"And LeRoi Amiri wants it like his own mama, big and easy."

Posted by floridacracker at October 17, 2005 09:30 AMI never thought of Barbara Bush as "shriveled and colorless". She always seemed like a woman of character and personality to me.
And hardly shriveled, unless the "poet" is speaking of wrinkles.

Posted by: -S- at October 18, 2005 02:15 AMSo, let me get this straight, they WANT to go back to New Orleans and flounder, flail, float and otherwise wail in misery? I thought the whole point was to be rescued for other things. Another hurricane (and it'll happen, as will others after that one) and N.O. will continue to sink into the great muddy. You'd think people would get the hint.

Oops, sorry, that's the "Poet Laureate of NJ" you're talking about.
