I do believe Tim Blair is taking a little poke at our boy.

Any idea where Duane played, Donnah? New Orleans had a great music scene when I lived there. I once saw Wynton Marsalis and his dad, before they got "famous," for a $5 cover-charge, at a place called "Snug Harbor." Five bucks...and I don't even like jazz unless I'm drinking martinis.

This was at the Warehouse, Salt. Sept, '71.
I like it because he's got his fingers interlocked. Ever seen one of him like that? I think not.

This is a great photo of the 'Einstein' of Slide with his E unsquared and his Mass at rest. Those pupils look a little dilated though. Probably just the flash of the camera.
I can identify with the hair though. I'm sure had Duane lived a longer life he would have under gone as many hair transformations as Clapton. We may be lucky to have never seen an 'Allman' mullet or perm, though, I wish we would have had him longer for a larger musical catalog.

As long as he didn't get the Clapton afro.

Looks like there's some gal sitting next to him, mimicking his posture. I bet it's Miss Candied Yam:

As to the pupils, he went into rehab very shortly after this. Of course, at this point, everything was "very shortly."

For a while there, a lot of people were thinking guitarist Johnny Lang was Duane "reincarnated" or maybe his illigitimate son born, um, born after a very long pregnancy.

Actually, Duane, Beck, Lang, they all look very much like someone else who comes to mind here...may I never have to type his name again, just saying.

It's like when they say every female past fifty in the U.K. looks like the Quaker Oats guy.

About Duane, it seems that with every week you share another great photo, we all write again how much we all wish Duane Allman could have stuck around a bit longer. Really would have liked that.

Who? Who is he-who-must-not-be-named?
And who is Johnny Lang?

LMAO@Quaker Oats. And all the babies look like Winston Churchill.

Donnah, I must admit my knowledge of Duane pales in comparison to yours. Is there some definitive material I can read to attain a higher level of Duane-consciousness? I never knew Duane had been in rehab, in fact, I never knew Duane had a daughter until I saw the picture of her accepting his award at the R & R Hall of Fame. I've seen references to books about the 'Brothers'. Are any worth the expense and is this book that is currently being written going to be the best of the lot? Keep me informed, I gots to know!

Willard- I think the standard is Scott Freeman's "Midnight Riders", though the ABB hated it. It's chockful of scandal. Kind of like the band's history. ;)
I'm hoping this new book on just Duane by Randy Poe will be good. I don't want worshipful. I'll be happy with the plain, unadorned truth.

Donnah,

I read ''Midnight Riders'', and it's more than obvious why the Allman's would hate it (the Gregg soap opera, Dickey's antics, Berry's sister tearing the current band a new one, etc.), but have you heard some direct quotes from band members regarding the book????

Posted by: YO at November 14, 2005 01:03 AM

Yes, they'd posted a statement about it on the website, written by Butch, I believe. He's an intelligent man, and the only one of the band with an education. If you put the ABB url in the Wayback Machine you might find it. In general, he was saying it wasn't high-minded enough, if I recall correctly.
I saw an another interview with Butch, though, where he said it was accurate, but not the story he'd wanted told. Same idea, I guess.

Then when the Complete ABB Discography book came out, they mentioned how much Mrs. Allman, Duane and Gregg's mother, had liked this book, as opposed to the other book. Not a surprise, as she takes major hits in Midnight Riders for being drunk and unfit.
