Well, what do you know? That turkey James Wolcott and I actually have a point of agreement: the comments section of LGF is a cesspool. I put on the same boots for wading through LGF comments as I do for the Democratic Underground ones: the solid waste of the lunatic fringe commenter is heaped high in both places.
Posted by floridacracker at January 1, 2006 01:53 PMI will definitely second that one, Donnah.
If having 100 to 300 mostly irrelevant random rambling comments per post is what it takes to be an uber-blogger----count me out!
It's just silly to try and post something of merit in the LGF comments and have someone take notice. No rhyme or reason whatsoever.
Posted by: kyer at January 2, 2006 01:28 AMThe signal-to-noise ratio is awful. Count me out of the crazy-talk, whether from the left or right wing. It doesn't matter which end of the political spectrum shit comes from: it's still just shit.
I don't like it being put forth as "conservative." I'm conservative, and some of the stuff I see in those comments just makes me ill. I'd be ashamed to have some of those comments associated with my blog; but then of course, I'd be deleting the hell out of them. I don't want to be the home of frothy rants.
Look at Tim Blair's site. He's conservative and the comments there are witty and intelligent. Andrea's there to weed out all the crap.
Posted by: Donnah at January 2, 2006 01:45 AMI have to agree. I started reading LGF during late 2003, but have pretty much given it up (unless someone else links to one of Charles' posts). Too obsessed with the Palestinian conflict for my taste in news, and too many comments per post, regardless of content. I see LGF as a good example of why some bloggers don't offer comments.
Posted by: carl in Atlanta at January 2, 2006 08:44 AMDitto all of the above. And thank God ~ I thought I was the only one who found them irritating and obnoxious. I haven't been there in almost 7 months because of the hateful drivel.
Posted by: tree hugging sister at January 3, 2006 12:27 AMA couple of years ago I used to read it too, until I started coming away feeling slimed.
