From a BBC correspondent in DC comes some astute observations on the decline of the American left as revealed by the lowly bumper sticker:
The American left has faded away.
Only their bumper stickers remain, like cockroaches after a nuclear holocaust.
"Re-defeat George Bush," they whine. Not knowing, not caring that the world has changed.
Multiple, conflicting messages combined with the advances in communication that destroyed their ability to control information delivery is sending the Democratic Party the way of the dodo.
Bonus word power entry: fissiparous!

Posted by: Owen Crosby at February 25, 2006 05:26 PMDick Morris recently made an analogy that dovetails well with the BBC's surprising story. (Its surprising that the BBC would run such an objective piece) Taken from Hillnews.com, here's Morris' thought:
"Like a completely refurbished 'pre-owned vehicle,' Al Gore seems to be positioning himself to Hillary Clinton’s left and as greener than John Kerry for a run at the 2008 Democratic nomination for president. His slogan might well read 'reelect Al Gore.'"
I'm not a Dick Morris fan but he does know the system, or at least the tactics, techniques, and procedures that put his old boss Bill in the White House two times withOUT gaining a plurality either time.
The story is correct that the Dems don't have a message but they've rarely ever had one in recent memory, just catchy sloganeering like, "Its the Economy, Stupid". They are still highly organized and can lead themselves well enough to cause the damage that they do. They are searching for the right slogan first and a candidate second.
My question is who will be leading the conservatives in 2008? I haven't seen the answer to that emerge anywhere yet, bumper stickers included, and its getting late.
