What was bad for the Cambodians works to the good of the Sudanese:
One of the world's most land mine-ridden nations sent a team of soldiers to Sudan on Saturday to clear mines laid in a 21-year civil war.
Cambodia dispatched 109 troops to join 26 already in place for the nation's first U.N.-peacekeeping mission after its own civil war, which left it riddled with land mines from nearly three decades of conflict. Extensive aid from the international community helped Cambodia build mine-clearing operations and expertise.
Other experts on tap include the Alabamans: if there's any country out there that's got some kind of boll weevil plague, just give them a call; they'll be glad to help.
Yep, yep. Just give them a call. They're ready and willing to answer all boll weevil plague questions, day or night.
Posted by floridacracker at April 17, 2006 09:22 AMHEY!!!
We have statues erected to the mighty 'Boll Weevil' here! Sometimes we even call our politicians that too...
Ahem, I see you found it. :)
I guess if you're ever in LA it's worth the drive just so you can say you saw it.
Do you mean 'ALA' in that last line? Whereabouts in Alabama are you?
I learned about the mighty boll weevil and its statue back in fifth grade. No wonder I was excited about history - I thought it was all going to be that odd and interesting.
Oh, there was some boll weevil song we had in music class too. I don't recollect exactly, but the lyrics went something like this: "Boll weevil! Boll weevil!"
Catchy, isn't it?
'LA' is "Lower Alabama" ... :)
I'm in Huntsville which is in the northern end of the state where cotton is still grown and Boll Weevils are still found.
We've discovered "A better way of life through chemicals" and the boll weevil isn't as big a pest as it once was.
The tune doesn't ring any bells right off hand.

Respected Folk/Blues musician Huddie Ledbetter (aka Leadbelly) wrote a song known as The Boll Weevil, or alternatively, De Ballet of De Boll Weevil.

Posted by: Donnah at April 18, 2006 12:14 AMHeh, "American by birth, Southern by the grace of God and blessed to live in the Heart of Dixie."
Did you know that we have one of the biggest EOD schools in the nation here?
We do our part when it comes to explosives training and removing them.
Ya, I'm opinionated and one of these days I'll be able to say "Donnah inspired me to blog" and there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth and Mr. Cracker will comfort you as possibly another star is born, or not. :)
Somehow I think my current employer would probably have a VERY dim veiw of me writing a blog.
Posted by: Gmac at April 18, 2006 01:54 PMWell, hurry up and start a blog so I can link you.
When you blog, don't blog from work and leave your work out of your posts.
