This was a small filler item in the 'Around South Florida' section of the Herald:
BUS 'BOMBER' CHASED BY RIDER WITH GUN
A Hispanic man boarded a Metrobus near the Miami International Mall on Friday afternoon, lugging a roll-on suitcase and speaking excitedly in Spanish.
The bus driver doesn't speak a word of Spanish. But one of her passengers did.
The translation: ''[He] said he had a bomb in the luggage,'' said Miami-Dade police spokeswoman Nelda Fonticiella.
That's when it really got interesting: Another passenger pulled out a gun and pointed it at the would-be bomber. The man, in a black shirt and olive shorts and still dragging the suitcase behind him, took off running -- with the armed passenger in pursuit.
The two were last seen running toward the mall, at Northwest 107th Avenue and 14th Street.
No one was hurt, police said.
''When the police got there, everyone was gone,'' Fonticiella said.
Just another day in Miami.

Posted by: tfhr at April 22, 2006 10:59 PMActually, I think the man was rapt in a fit of patriotism for his new and welcoming homeland, Los Estados Unidos (EE.UU), and was merely caught in the midst of singing the versión españiol when he got to the part where "...♪♫ las bómbas bursteen en air♪♫...." and things got out of hand on el autobus.

I hópe my sarcasm hasñ't been lost in translation but I think my country will be if we don't start paying attention to the lyrics of the song and the laws of the land. ¡Si, se puede!
Posted by: tfhr at April 23, 2006 12:08 AMOops - I can't spell, type or proofread in any language. Its "español". And that's why I stick to consonants when I can't find an acronym to replace the words.
Posted by: tfhr at April 23, 2006 12:15 AMYou know, normally you'd think this would be a much bigger story...
Posted by: Donnah at April 23, 2006 12:18 AMBoth stories - bank robber and bus nut - have the unfortunate detail of an armed bystander that thwarted a crime. We can't have that all over the news, can we Mrs. Brady?
Posted by: tfhr at April 23, 2006 02:05 AMAs far as the National Anthem is concerned, the MSM has no concept of the meaning behind the lyrics, so why would they concern themselves?
Besides, right now the MSM is digging deep to come to the rescue of one primary source, Mary McCarthy. If they can't do a good job of obfuscating this situation, the MSM will have to kiss a lot of other well placed sources good-bye and that will severely impact the effort to undermine the current administration.
The fight to get regain control in DC is the only war they know about. Jihad, illegal immigration, crime, those are other people's problems for now. Taken to the local level, Nagin is more concerned about saving his job than fixing New Orleans - first things first. It is a nationwide mindset that serves no constituent.
Posted by: tfhr at April 23, 2006 02:18 AMAnd here all that sits in my comments. Why not write a post? I've not gotten interested in McCarthy yet, and some of the folks here might want to read about it.
BTW, Sarah Brady's not above purchasing a gun herself, and a straw purchase at that.

McCarthy should really be just the start of bigger things but given what happened with her "mentor", Sandy Berger, it may just be the start of nothing. Then again, they just did hammer a guy for providing classified to some Israeli "lobbyists".
If Porter Goss really wants to shake the tree and see what falls out, he ought to push for the heaviest fines, prison sentence, etc. In doing so, he could give her incentive to give up the secrets she does keep - who she really works for and what she hoped she would provide them. Maybe for a lighter sentence she will implicate others.
If that fails, just tell her its for an interview with Time. They won't be able to shut her up.
Posted by: tfhr at April 23, 2006 10:54 AMPorter's a local fellow for whom I have high expectations.
I'll never be able to figure out why Sandy Berger and his pants only got a slap on the wrist.
I saw where they're 'requesting' that Senators Rockefeller and Durbin take a polygraph to determine if they may be 'sharing' too.
They can of course decline the invitaion and subsequently lose their security clearances.
This 'may' prove to be a bigger story than it is at the moment, or not, depending on how the MSM plays it's hand. They probably don't want to cut off their largest provider of news information and Pulitzer prize stories.
Posted by: Gmac at April 24, 2006 12:00 PMI lived in Leisure City for about a year back in the late 70's..one of the things I noticed was the
hispanic population did not really 'need' the local law enforcement to take 'care' of their neighborhood, eau contraire...I watched a whole
crew beat the crap out of a would be car thief.
