Keepvid and FFMpeg. What an awesome combination. It doesn't get any easier than this. Even the technologically-challenged will get it right on the first try.
1. Get the URL of your chosen video from YouTube, Google video, or other popular video sites.
2. Go to KeepVid. Select the site tab, plug in the URL, then click 'download.' It will produce a flash video file.
3. Right click and use 'save target as' or 'save link as', changing the extension to .flv
4. Download, unzip, and open FFMpeg.
5. Click 'add' and put the file information in the input box.
6. Browse the output folder and click where you want the end product saved to.
7. Leave the output options at 600 and select MP1, MP2, or AVI.
8. Hit 'process'. In a minute you'll be watching your video.
when do I (how) change the file extension..?
Posted by: csason at April 24, 2006 09:38 AMWhen you right click the save box always comes up. The file name is there, and you just back over whatever extension it has and type in the .flv extension. You could change the file name while you're at it too, if you're going to downloading a lot of vids.
That's if you're wanting something off YouTube. If you're getting from Google video, you'll see it already says FLV under 'type' in the save box.
I did one fine, then when I get to the little
prompt at the end which asks if I am ready to
convert the .bat files..it goes really fast, but I dont get any output file. The first one I did
when the little prompt came up, the conversion
in the DOS window took a while...hmmm
I have no idea what you're doing.
Posted by: Donnah at April 24, 2006 05:18 PMI really drew a blank on this one. Glad you're in charge here.
Posted by: Norma at April 24, 2006 09:53 PMi gave up..How is it that the first one went so smoove...then nevermind.
Posted by: csason at April 25, 2006 10:08 PMOwen, I guarantee if you're getting them from YouTube, this works. I've got like 20 there. I got one from Google Video, and the only thing that was different was I didn't have to put the .flv extension because it said it was already saving as a flash video file.
I didn't have any instructions and got it right off. Maybe my instructions are the problem - ignore them.
haw haw..don't listen to me...I'll fiogure it out.
did/does your computer bring up the last little
DOS window ? the first go at it was a little weird, being that the 'process .bat' deal came up..and after that..it just blinks by.
Owen, go to Youtube and save one normal file first.
All this stuff is doing is:
Keepvid pries the flash file away from a site
FFMpeg converts it to another format.
