Hillary Clinton is telling her astronaut story again, albeit in a more generic form:
“After determining she'd never be an athlete, she set her sights on becoming an astronaut.
"‘So I wrote to NASA and said, 'How do I sign up to be an astronaut?' she said. ‘And they wrote back very politely and said, 'We don't take girls."'
It's probably best for her to leave out the specifics of the tale, as it appears to be one of those misty water-colored memories:
Inspired by Alan Shepard, the first American to journey into space, a 14-year-old from suburban Chicago wrote a letter to NASA in 1961 asking what she needed to do to become an astronaut.
Back came a curt reply: Girls are not being recruited by the nation's space program.
...of the way she was:
"I wrote off to this new agency called NASA, and asked how a twelve-year old girl could become an astronaut..."
Hillary Clinton was an exceedingly bright child, and has many genuine achievements that she can be proud of. Why she has the need to be forever spicing things up with little politically-expedient fibs is beyond me. If she's not careful, she might even start recalling nonexistent church burnings.
Her mother told her a lot of things, but she might not have told her to just be herself.
Unless that's the problem.

Posted by floridacracker at May 2, 2006 10:24 PMThe story is seared, seared into her memory, donnah.
Posted by: Mr. Bingley at May 3, 2006 08:46 AMI've probably got a whole lot less problem with Hillary than most people who visit here, but these little white lies of hers really bug me.
Posted by: Donnah at May 3, 2006 10:40 AMIMHO she'll do and say anything to acend to the presidency. I've watched her since '92 and the lies she tells are every bit as bold as the one's that the boy president spread. Her's are just easier to spot because she's a piker compared to her hubby and fails to research her bloviations.
And I have BIG problems with her. She's a socialist, in the big 'C' way.
It's a character flaw to punch up things with these crappy little lies. Most people have to go through their lives not tailoring claims about themselves to suit the ears of different groups. We just have our plain old life story and leave it at that.
Bill really did have the smooth lying down pat. I helped vote the boy in the first time.
This blog seems a fitting penance for that past offense, Donnah. Above all, you learned and did not repeat the mistake. In defense of those that remained gullible, Bill could easily schmooze the willing and hopeful and with some effort, convince some skeptics because he was never about ideology. Hillary is going to have to struggle with hiding her ideology, especially now that the MSM has competition.
There is so much advance warning that it's almost inconceivable that Hillary could pull it off but she has a highly organized machine to help her and the opposition is in disarray. If she, or others on her behalf, can convince McCain to run on a third party ticket, she can get elected.
Posted by: tfhr at May 3, 2006 08:52 PMThere can never be penance enough for the erotic dream I had about him when he was first running for pres. ;)
I don't think McCain would do well on a third-party ticket. Ross Perot had an actual following.
Posted by: Donnah at May 3, 2006 11:13 PMBut McCain will have a following - the MSM.
As for your dream starring Bill, Janet Reno, and Madeline Albright,....
