Hey, Porter

I'm sad to see that Porter Goss has resigned as head of the CIA. His work in Lee County always showed him to be a man of intelligence and integrity. I'd imagine very few people know the reasons behind the resignation right now, but that didn't stop the Ft. Myers News-Press' web editor Jan Lindsey from asking, "Do you think Porter Goss was a scapegoat for the President?" I'm generous though, and will consider this overt and ham-handed bias as a refreshing change of pace from subtle insinuation.

I do hope Porter comes home and runs for something big here in Florida.

UPDATE:
Plenty of gossip to be had over this one.

Yeah, he always struck me as an impressive dude.

Me too. I don't know what this is all about, but I hope he continues his public service in Florida.

This was a surprise because it looked like Goss was making progress on cleaning up the CIA. With Mary McCarthy's ouster due to Goss' investigation, I was hopeful that real change at that agency was underway.

There is the possibility that he was getting too close to others of the same ilk as McCarthy and they have something on him or the recently breaking story of a CIA high-roller caught up in a corruption (bribery - contract scandal) investigation might be too close to home. I don't know when we'll get the actual cause of his sudden departure but it could simply be due to the diminished role of the DCI now that we have the (totally unnecessary) National Intelligence Director.

Hopefully he leaves his job untainted by any of his own actions, that this doesn't provide an avenue of escape for McCarthy, and that the next Director continues to clean house in what has become the "State Department" of intelligence agencies.

My $0.02: Watch Goss run for the Senate.

He did an excellant job as Director even if he did rub the imbeds the wrong way by tossing out id10ts that missed EVERYTHING since the Cuban Missle Crisis in '62.

He did such a great job in Florida, I hope he didn't get caught up in anything in Washington.
