The Hungry Little Mermaid

The potential is there for a truly memorable show:

Visitors had to be evacuated from Weeki Wachee Springs after an alligator tried to swim with the mermaids.

Authorities say one of the park's former mermaids noticed the gator while she was swimming in the mermaid theater yesterday. The nine-foot gator got away before divers and a trapper could catch it. Swimming holes were closed for an hour as crews searched for the reptile, but reopened in time for the afternoon mermaid show.

About two thousand people were at the park yesterday. A nine-foot alligator was caught at the tourist attraction last weekend. A trapper tied it up after finding it sleeping on a floating dock.
