A Country Without A Government

Looks like Somalia is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. It can look forward to its new future as a terrorist training ground:

African Union chief and Congo Republic President Denis Sassou Nguesso asked the United States on Monday to find ways to end the crisis in Somalia but said Washington must not provide aid to warlords.

Sassou, who heads the 53-nation African Union, said after meeting President George W. Bush they discussed Somalia and how the United States and other countries could do more to help end the ongoing violence in the failed Horn of Africa country.

There has been no functioning government in Somalia since 1991 and Islamic militia appeared to take control of the capital on Monday after battling a coalition of self-styled anti-terrorism warlords widely suspected of getting backing from Washington.

Read the whole thing. It's very interesting and will get you up to speed on Somalia. Like coming home to mom's meatloaf, it's comforting and homey to be back on the familiar turf of a proxy war.

Somehow I just don't see an upside to anything that happens over there in the short term future even if we support the non-islamic side.

I'm a Cold War gal and have missed fighting through intermediaries.
What a miserable place Somalia is. I can't see anything good happening there short or long term. It was an interesting article, though.
