A 60-year-old mystery...solved!:
Sixty years ago this summer, something scary happened on the beach. A monster emerged from the Gulf of Mexico and wandered around in the dark.Posted by floridacracker at June 25, 2006 01:41 PMThe Clearwater Monster didn’t hurt anyone, but left tracks, lots of them, discovered the next morning on the sand.
The tracks looked like nothing anyone had ever seen. They weren't the kind of tracks left by dinosaurs, but they were large, about 14 inches long and 11 inches wide. They featured a narrow heel and 3 long toes. The tracks were more birdlike than reptilian, though not entirely birdlike. They were a dispatch from an unknown world.
The news made the papers. The news made the radio. The monster was the talk of Clearwater. A few citizens stepped forward to announce they had seen something mysterious on the beach that night, something alien, and if you didn’t believe them, why, you could jump in a lake.
great story, thanks.

Posted by: Donnah at June 25, 2006 03:44 PMNice story... I was there in the early 60's in Pinellas. It brings back memories of a time when everybody wasn't wrapped so tight.
Practical jokes now might get you some time in the big house.
I remember participating in a big UFO flap in the mid-6Os. A friend and I took plastic laundry bags (a new thing then) and filled them with natural gas from the space heater in his basement. We taped lit cigarettes to the bags and released them at night. The cigarette eventually burned down and ignited the bag while in the air causing a brief flame. Stirred up some controversy in the neighborhood.

My dad used to hide behind bushes by the road and throw a scarecrow out in front of cars. Not very high-tech, but amusement for a kid, nonetheless.
