From the Capitol Hill Blue FAQ:

Now that I look at that quote sideways and squint, I can see how "sources" wouldn't necessarily have to mean actual real people.

He makes an interesting point about when exactly is person discredited and for how long. Dan Rather is just going to keep popping up.
My own resultant question is when will has-been actors who haven't been famous for decades stop popping up in the people section of my newspaper.
