I remember Guns N Roses - "Sweet Child O' Mine" getting so much airplay that I told the tech working for me that if I heard it one more time on his ghetto blaster I was going to be buying him a replacement.

What do you mean "Not a bad year musically"...can you name one worse?

Look at the list...it's all crap.

What's crap is you posting the same comment over and over. If these lists scorch your retinas so bad, skip them.
I'll be listening to UB40.

Pretty full of ourselves aren't we...not to worry, I won't darken your doorway again. I'll stick to bloggers who's opinions I respect from here on out.

I think I shall be able to bear it very well indeed.

Oh yeah: when I do the lists for the 70's, 60's, and Country: tough crap to the haters of any of those particular eras and genres.

Donnah,
Seriously though...
Rick Astley, Taylor Dane, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Richard Marx, Eric Carmen, my beloved Cheap Trick going out with a wimper, Phil Collins doing "A Groovey Kind of Love" and waaayy too much George Michael? - this was the year of the bad ballad.
What exactly redeemed 1988 for you?

Steve Winwood, UB40, the Pet Shop Boys, Johnny Hates Jazz, Billy Ocean, Cheap Trick's "Don't Be Cruel," and Brenda Russell's beautiful, beautiful voice, among others.

This is from a person whose radio dial was set mainly to Country stations. I cannot imagine going to a buffet and simply hating *everything*.

As a kid I used to go down to the store every week and pick up the local radio station's Top 40 for the week. I don't know what golden year of music some people seem to think exists, but for every "Long Train Running" there's a "Heartbeat, It's A Love Beat."
And there will still be those who have fond memories of the DeFranco Family -- like Quentin Tarantino.
