Going Like Potcakes

In the Bahamas, what's stuck to the bottom of a pot of peas and rice is called "potcake." It's also what they call stray dogs. The folks at the Palm Beach Humane Society think this little batch of imported potcakes is delicious, and it looks like the feeling's mutual.

That's a great photo. The puppy on the right reminds me of my dog a little - also for the fact that she was an island dog too. When we got her I'd say about 5 - 10% of her body weight was from a flea population. Despite a rough start, she is a moose now.

Oh my gosh, she's gorgeous. How on earth did you end up getting a potcake?

That's her stock expression - it means you're going to get to play with her or you have a snack or you are a snack.

The Olive is from a different island - different ocean, for that matter. She got her first taste of CONUS last September after a 10 or 12 hour flight - her first official act was to tear out after a squirrel - not having seen one before - so we knew she'd be fine.

The cost of shipping her back was a write-off as a moving expense, so it worked out pretty well and we had the advantage of time spent living there to clear any health issues related to bringing Olive back. The Palm Beach Humane Society is really doing something good there to make it possible to bring an animal in from another country for adoption.

Yes, they're doing a very good thing. It looks like everybody involved is delighted with the arrangement.

If I were in Florida now, I'd be getting that puppy on the right for Olive as she could use help knocking over the larger pieces of furniture and our neighbor.

I've found it's just as easy to apologize for two dogs as for one.

One day, when my wife and I can afford to get a proper fence, we're going to look for a dog (or siblings) from the local animal shelter.

We just got us a rescue Lab from Looziana Saturday. ("Craig". Who names a dog "Craig"? He's a proper "Beauregard".) He was so dang skinny and smelly, the Scotties wouldn't even try to chew on him.

But man, he's purty now after two baths. And they're tearing him up. All is right with the world.

I checked your site. Where are the pics of this little rooster?

WindowsXP ATE MY FTP and I haven't been able to load JACK to my retail site (where I store all my pics) for two months.

It's driving me crazy and he really is hunky.
