Wednesday's Duane Allman Pic

duanechmalet.jpg
Be it Sea Breeze High or Castle Heights Military Academy,
Duane was ready to get out and get on with life.
Wail on, Skydog!

(Thanks to Cheryl for reminding me about this one.)

You know, sending your young-uns to a military boarding school at that age [middle school?] says a lot, but I'm not sure what: financially, pretty durn upper middle class (was there money in the family?). Psycho-socially-emotionally, problems at home? With whom?

I know nothing about the ABs' parents; father died at a young age, no? What happened with Mom? Who paid for the boarding school? What did Duane do (or not do) to deserve that rare honor at age, what?, 12, 13?

Nothing against military schools! I have several long-time friends who went (or were threatened to be sent), but it was always for high school and either due to behavioral issues or because Dad's parents had made him go, etc., etc.

Just curious...

Carl...mornin' !

I think Duane was in HS when he started Castle Heights. I don't beleieve it was so much the discipline issues, as it was Mama Allman's desire
for the boys to follow Dad's footsteps (up to a point).

It was way more expensive at that time...not many I knew of could go (or wanted to according to my cousin from Pahokee..he HAD to go.)

Just wondering, Donnah: when do you figure you're gonna run out of new pictures to post??

Yo- Another couple of years, I think.

Carl- Castle Heights had a forum that's the source of the several military pics of Duane. While he went there for part of elementary and middle school, he also got sent back there in high school for a while when he got unmanageable in Daytona.

Gregg and Duane went there initially as small children because the mother needed to go to school in order to support them and she got a big break in tuition for Castle Heights because her husband died in the service. Duane's attending in high school though was the standard case of a kid being out of control.

Now I remember where I saw those ties they were
wearing in the other picture... Eddie Haskel
and Larry Mondello.
