Cloak & Scimitar

A cunning ruse from the people who cracked the Enigma code. I think:

POLICE have agreed to consult a panel of Muslim leaders before mounting counter-terrorist raids or arrests. Members of the panel will offer their assessment of whether information police have on a suspect is too flimsy and will also consider the consequences on community relations of a raid.

Members will be security vetted and will have to promise not to reveal any intelligence they are shown. They will not have to sign the Official Secrets Act.

(Via Ace, who thinks otherwise.)

UPDATE:
I doubt anyone agrees with me on this one, but I remember the excellent work of the Double Cross Committee and maintain a faint hope.

as much as I respect and admire the Brits, I am marvelled sometimes at the prevailing logic..

Sort of like during WW2 and such..they always seemed to come up with some hairbrained ideas. Remember the fake airfields and fake tanks, etc.. that they built to ward of German attack ??

Historically, this move should be in the same index.

but hell, I am half asleep and probably not even on topic..sry

Well csason may be half asleep but the knobs that came up with this brilliant scheme to share information with "community leaders" have got to be dreaming if they think anyone is going to give them anything to work with at their little get togethers.

If it ever came to light that an informant or police officer is killed due to sharing intelligence with Muslim leaders, it would be the end of so many careers and the start of real retribution against Muslims in the UK that I doubt that either side will want to be a part of this lunacy. To think that this could be beneficial at any level requires one to believe that potential informants will disregard the added risk that they might have their identities disclosed. If this idea goes forward there won't be intel to share!

I used to work with Brits on intel and I have to say that generally speaking, they were more security conscious than Americans. Something most Americans don't realize is that the barriers that exist between law enforcement agencies and military intelligence in the U.S., simply don't exist in that way for the Brits. There is a good deal more cooperation among them, probably due to having to fight the IRA, than we see in the U.S. intel community.

That said, they can still screw up but I cannot imagine British intelligence professionals becoming a party to this kind of stupidity.

C'mon, what's the procedure to smoke out a mole? Something just like this.
They were sheer brilliance with their trickery in WWII. Major William Martin ie, the man who never was, etc.

Well I wouldn't recommend starting with auditions! Again, I point to the problem created by suggesting that a source could be disclosed during a "community relations" meeting. Its tough enough to get help from inside the Muslim community without bringing in the Imams to peruse any aspects of reporting. Same said about technical intelligence or the involvement of other countries, NGOs, banking institutions, etc.

Moles are one problem but active operational and support cells are something else. At best this is a sorry public relations stunt.

Sure Donnah, we know the successful side of these things... AND I agree that some of them (born of absolute necessity for the most part) were ingenious.

This, to me is different, mainly because I too, believe we are in Jihad..and I don't trust anyone
who seems to be on the other side.

Of course, I also disfavor integration of Muslims into our culture. I'm wide awake now..sort of, but I am getting sick of watching the spanking of the Manning.

Using a double agent to spread disinformation is not comparable to allowing a local cleric to have access to police and intelligence agency materials. If this is part of a plan to introduce disinformation, it is still a bad idea because it will discourage cooperation from those that would like to help but fear retribution from the Muslim "community" in the UK.

They had their subways blown up. The English are not stupid people. The first thing that went through my mind is that they're laying a trap.
Maybe I am wrong. But you know as well as I that if civilians were blase about the Russians, we were watching those f*ckers like hawks.

so I guess you're one of those "keep your enemies closer" peeps. Works for me..besides,Britannia is a long way from Winter Haven.

I can't even coerce our district's commissioner to
preserve even a tad of what was once good about Polk county, let alone Jeb in regards to Florida.

Seems to be a prime time for uprisings..and insurgents, since our leadership is so busy preserving their jobs. I swear we need a Kinky Friedman in the White House, but who knows..the whole thing might go to his head, too.

I wish the UK well, and would bear arms beside her, but I must say..they allowed their country to be taken over, and it appears we will sit here and watch TV and bitch and do the same thing.
