A homeless man trying to test the quality of items he wanted to shoplift set a fire at the Bonita Springs Target Wednesday evening, according to Lt. Adam Rivero with the state Fire Marshal's office.

Ronald Butts, 38, was charged with first degree arson of a building that had people inside. He is in custody at the Lee County Jail.

"One of the things he does to test the quality of items to be stolen is to burn them to see if they are polyester or cotton," Rivero said. "He prefers cotton."

Cotton is the more comfortable fabric; I can understand why he'd prefer it.

Lee County Sheriff's Office reports indicate he set a rack of clothing in the women's section on fire and then left the store.

Hmm.
