Muslims illegally refusing access to seeing-eye dogs in England? It's happened here too.
Meanwhile Tom Pey, policy director for the British Guide Dogs for the Blind, suggests the guide-dog-dependent blind voluntarily scale back their legal right to access:
"I think everybody is agreed there needs to be understanding on both sides - guide dog owners need to be sensitive to the needs of the Muslim community, as much as the Muslim community need to be aware of the law and the needs of guide dog owners."
A sit-in is more in order.
UPDATE:
If you didn't recognize them, the image above is of Nashville's Morris Frank, and Buddy, America's first seeing-eye dog. Together, Frank and Dorothy Harrison Eustis founded The Seeing Eye, to bring independence and dignity to America's blind. If you've read anything about the strong and determined Morris Frank, you'd know he wouldn't be willing to cede an inch of his hard-won freedom.
UPDATE II:
The dog-assisted blind are also being refused access in Australia. This is becoming a human rights issue that needs to be addressed.
I think it's about time for the muzzies to scale back their attempt to rework their host civilizations into another islamic, intolerant loser society. We need to enforce the laws concerning aide-dogs which weren't written with a religion caveat or exemption.
Posted by: rabidfox at October 7, 2006 08:30 AMWelcome them to the justice system in the country with a happygram from your lawyer informing them that all their assets are about to become yours if they don't 'reform' and obey existing laws.
/wonders "Am I back in the good graces of the lawyers now?"
Posted by: Gmac at October 7, 2006 11:49 AMOne thing the dog-assisted blind need to do right now is freshen up their access rights. I'd like to see a whole bank of them, with cops and cameras, hailing cabs at the Minneapolis airport.
Posted by: Donnah at October 7, 2006 11:55 AMEither that, or start training really mean guide dogs, ones that'll take a bite out of uncooperative cabbies.
I was shocked by that British rep. He's not blind. He sat there and listened to a blind guy saying he had to stay in his house because of reactions to his dog, and came then out with that ridiculous statement.
Morris Frank, who lost his sight at 16, refused to be a second-class citizen and wouldn't allow himself, or any other blind person, to be fenced in.
OO, I think the cab driver and the company he works for have big problems coming down the pike.
"Mrs Vernon, who works as a legal officer for the Royal National Institute for the Blind, added: “The owner of the minicab firm, Niven Sinclair, was also very insensitive, telling me that what had happened to me wasn’t really very important, and I should have more respect for other people’s culture. They have shown very little respect for my rights as a disabled person and have never once offered me an apology.”"
Muslims ought to be required to acclimate to the cultures they say they want to be a part of (or at least try to relocate within) and stop demanding that everyone else's cultures accommodate Muslims. If Muslims find dogs "unclean," then let the Muslims leave (whatever situation they're in) and isolate themselves rather than trying to isolate any/everyone else.
I agree that the blind as with all disabled should be reaffirming rights and worth, along with protections. Unfortunately, the whole retaliation against social programs has gone to an extreme in our society and the handicapped/disabled are perceived as "users" and a drain on society. You'd be horrified (well, maybe not) as to the extent of discrimination about the disabled by physicians and insurance companies, and especially our government itself. They allow violations of Title III (Transportation) because they penalize by one degree or the other anyone who tries to complain about discrimination. It's not a balanced process and it does not exist to protect the disabled, as much as the federal and state bureaucracies function to squash and silence (and further marginalize) the disabled. Our medical system assists that process and openly ridicules many who are disabled. It's downright cruel.
