For the first time, a winner of an HGTV "Dream Home" tried to live in it. Their residence there proved short-lived.
I don't blame them for trying; I was lusting after that house as well. Go take the tour; it's gorgeous.
Posted by floridacracker at October 9, 2006 10:09 AMDoesn't anyone ever think of these things before they move in? At least we insisted on seeing the utility bills before we bought a house. We passed on a larger one because we didn't think we could afford to heat it.
Posted by: Chris at October 9, 2006 11:42 AMI'm surprised HGTV doesn't see the inability to afford the utilities and taxes on the prize as a big problem, especially since no winners have kept the houses as far as I can tell.

Posted by: Chris at October 9, 2006 06:59 PMdamn that house is ugly...looks like something
somebody put together after watching Hansel and Gretel on acid.
That's why I would have sold it.
Since they're living there, seems like a good time to get a pizza route, sign up for a computer course or something, close down the kids wing...or dump it and go back to Chicago, or Tampa..
I guess I am a little short on patience with whiney little contest winners, I went to the FLDHSMV's this morning about my driver's license.
I was the only American in line, of six.
Four Haitians had an interpreter with them. None could even understand the examiner's questions..
Which leads to the question..Why in the F .. are we giving totally illiterate people driver's licenses ???
Posted by: csason at October 9, 2006 10:45 PMThere was an article earlier this year when the HGTV contest started this year that said only 2 of the winners (in 8 years? 10 years?) have ever tried to live in the house.
