Portrait of the artist as a young legend.
Wail on, Skydog!
Thanks again for recommending the biography. It 'almost' made me feel competent to discuss guitars and such with the other regulars (at least now I can look up all the various models discussed here from time to time). It did remove a lot of my ignorance about the whole Muscle Shoals phenomenon. And about Gregg Allman's role in things.
But the highlight for me was learning that Bill Graham insisted on having the ABB play the very last concert in the Fillmore East. That right there about says it all, IMHO.

You know, I remember cruising the Goodwill stores looking for hippie clothes.. I'll bet that's what I have in common with DA. That, and loving that nasty honk he milked out of a Les Paul.

Posted by: csason at October 25, 2006 05:41 AMI don't know where you find these pictures but they make not only my day, they make my whole week. I almost lost it last week because your post was much later than usual. Thanks for your wonderful weekly walk down memory lane!
Posted by: cindy at October 25, 2006 01:45 PMGreat pic, thanks!
Posted by: mike at October 25, 2006 02:39 PMLike Cindy (above), I set my week's clock by when I get to see another great picture of Duane.
Heartfelt thanks, mama.
More importantly, I pulled out my copy of "Hot 'Lanta" 3 days ago and listed to Duane's solo, with my jaw on the floor -- absolutely mystical.
Posted by: Paco Malo at October 26, 2006 12:29 AMThe pressure!
I'm glad you enjoyed the book, Carl. I think it had its pluses and minuses.
Posted by: Donnah at October 26, 2006 03:39 AMDonnah, do you need my snail address to send that book ??
pressure indeed, you love it.
Posted by: csason at October 26, 2006 06:15 AMOn the anniversary of his death, Wail on Duane. The musical void you left, can only be partially filled with what you left behind. It wasn't enough, but it will have to do. RIP.
