In an insulting coincidence, the only Republican who's ticked me off enough to cause me write him my solemn pledge that I'd never vote for him again is now in charge of the whole RNC. Perhaps he'll declare his new parking spot an illegal-alien sanctuary:
Sen. Mel Martinez, the first-term Florida lawmaker who previously served in President Bush's Cabinet, will assume the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee, GOP officials said Monday.Martinez, 60, will replace current chairman Ken Mehlman, who will leave the post in January at the end of his two-year term, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to avoid pre-empting a formal announcement.
Martinez will remain in the Senate. Mike Duncan, the RNC's current general counsel and a former party treasurer, will run the day-to-day operations at the party's Capitol Hill headquarters.
The illegal immigration issue is going to take the bottom right out of their boat if they're not careful.

Posted by: richard at November 13, 2006 05:44 PMMel? Martinez?? The RINO amnesty granting half wit???
I want a pound of whatever the hell it is they're toking, it's gotta be wheelchair weed with the decisions they've made lately.
There's a betting pool going that asks whats the most boneheaded move the Republicans can make next to cheese off the conservative base even more than they already have.
I'm putting all my money on an amnesty program that gives retroactive Social Security benefits, its a cinch winner.
I was so ticked at Martinez, and the choice of him shows where they're heading, if it weren't clear enough.

The GOP base was sent a shock wave by picking a pro-amnesty Mel Martinez as the Republican Party Chairman. It seems clear now, that President Bush will push his open border agenda with the help of Nancy Pelosi lead Congress. Mel Martinez job will be to control GOP Party decent from Congress, with the promise of new Hispanic voters.
Palm Beach Post
Signaling a new direction for the Republican Party, which had heavy losses in the Hispanic community in last week’s elections, Florida Sen. Mel Martinez appeared ready Monday to become the party’s new general chairman while retaining his Senate seat.
Martinez thrust himself into the contentious debate over immigration, helping craft the Senate version of a comprehensive immigration bill that would offer a route to eventual citizenship for longtime illegal residents while requiring others to leave the U.S.
Michele Waslin, director of immigration policy at the National Council of La Raza, is hopeful Martinez and his GOP allies will make the right moves.
Is the GOP selling-out the Base with pushing an open border agenda? Does anyone think that the GOP lost the election due to the immigration issue?
