You'd have thought the Gainesville Wal-Mart had slashed prices on cell phones judging from the cutthroat displays there among those wanting to reach out and touch someone this holiday season:
One local teen went to a store to go shopping and ended up taking a trip to the hospital after a fight with an employee. Now the store employee is facing jail time after slashing her across the neck.
Gainesville Police say the 17-year-old teenage girl was visiting the Wal-Mart on Northwest 13th Street.
She had walked out of the store, but went back when she thought she left her cell phone in a shopping cart.
Detectives say she approached 18-year-old Wal-Mart employee Darius stacy, who was retreving the carts, and asked if he had the phone.
The two started arguing, and then shoving each other before Stacy pulled out a weapon.
"The employee had a box cutter and he cut the 17 year old in the throat," said GPD Sgt. Keith Kameg. "Fortunately, they were non life threatening injures."
The young woman was treated at Shands U-F for a cut that extended from her left ear to her windpipe.
Stacy is being charged with attempted murder.
And so the cursed cell phone continued its journey...
Posted by floridacracker at December 18, 2006 12:34 AMOne Christmas past, I left my purse in the cart at Toys R Us. I didn't realize it until I had gotten home. It had two check books, three credit cards, and more than 400$ in cash, besides all my personal ID. It was a potential financial disaster...like..tens of thousands of dollars!, but the cart boy had turned it in. The blessed purse had found its way home, and I found the blessed angel cart boy and gave him $60 for being such a great, honest, wonderful person.
If it had happened at WalMart, I'm sure I would have bled too.
That's a wonderful story, Nancy.
Posted by: Donnah at December 18, 2006 11:54 AMthey used to have a produce stand out in the parking lot at a local Wal-mart, my Dad lost his wallet there somehow. It took him about three days to realize he may have lost it fawning over someone else's goodies... I happened to be over visiting and suggested we ride over to the stand. The man had it. My Dad couldn't figure out why the man hadn't called..neither could I.
Nothing was missing. That has to be because he 'found' a deposit bag so full of cash and checks, the idjit who was supposed to drop it after closing just left it stuck in the bank drawer. Dad went to drop his bag from work and the other bag was stuck in the mechanism. He couldn't get it to go down either, so he stuffed it in the trunk and went home. Next morning he called the bank and it belonged to K-Mart. The assistant manager that left it got fired, but not until he
drove to my Dad's store and picked up the bag.
I remember dropping by on my way home that evening..and he said "Go take a look in my car trunk" Wow.. btw there was over 35k in the bag.
