Still Alive

Today's a happy anniversary for some Uruguayan rugby players.

More on the saga of the Andes survivors can be read at these comprehensive websites.
For those of you who love adventure tales as I do, I can't recommend the book "Alive" highly enough. In addition to the physical rigor of surviving in glacial conditions, that their ordeal lasted ten weeks makes for fascinating reading on the psychology of people in a long-term crisis. Then there's the cannibalism stuff.

That is one hell of a book, Donnah. For some reason, I couldn't put it down. It's probably because I was sitting in an airport on some Christmas past...before wirelsss.

Anytime it snows here in the DC area mass hysteria ensues - first they buy up all the toilet paper and then cannibalism breaks out. So, yeah, it's pretty much like summer but without stocked shelves in the stores.

whenver that is mentioned i think of them prying out their impacted waste so they could go again.

scatological? you bet...just another poo poo joke to mitigate the horrific tale.

I have my original hardback copy from 1974. It really was a study in group dynamics.

I have my doubts about their being fastidious enough to use sticks, Richard.
