Augusta, Georgia's Godfather of Soul has passed away at the age of 73.

Quite a character. James was bad to the bone.
Merry/Happy Carl in Atlanta

Posted by: Donnah at December 25, 2006 12:04 PMYes, THE hardest working man in rock n' roll, James Brown will be missed. RIP
Posted by: Gmac at December 25, 2006 11:40 PMNever liked the man and never liked the music. But yes, hard working and quite a character. RIP.
Posted by: Peter at December 26, 2006 10:03 AMSadness.
He was scheduled to play Prince George, BC on Jan. 14. Check a map, and you'll see how remote that is. He truly must have been the hardest working man in showbiz, to come all that way.
James Brown never stopped sluggin'.
Posted by: rg at December 26, 2006 05:52 PMHe had good music, but not even CLOSE to a good history.
RIP, okay, but I'm not gonna commemorate his life. His accomplishments? Okay. but his life? uh uh, no way.
Posted by: Wickedpinto at December 27, 2006 01:10 AMI agree. That's why I've not done so. I'm not up to speaking ill of the newly-dead though unless their offenses involve the hideous and not just the tacky.
Posted by: Donnah at December 27, 2006 01:25 AMYeah, no doubt the slobbering accolades will come forth from people who never even liked his music, and he'll be credited with rescuing slaves via the underground railway or something. He was a bad man. Rick James bad. Almost. Who cares? He was an entertainer, not a statesman.
But I'd still take him over a pretentious git like ... what's his name? Bono?
